Is the T6.1 stop start dangerous

ACC can be very effective, but certainly not infallible - I've had to intervene on a number of occasions to prevent disaster.

My main gripe with ACC, though, is that progress can be very jerky, with constant acceleration and deceleration. Whilst this is inevitable with a system designed to react to actual hazards (rather than to anticipate developing hazards), it is very tiring and not at all fuel-efficient.
Not quite as jerky as when the radar falsely detects an impending collision that is unlikely and the hazard does not exist! For instance occasionally a fern or something similar drapes across the way and the first and most shocking to me was in Chippenham Hardenhuish Lane next to the Sheldon Secondary School is a widened recess to allow parking along the short length of the road but the kerb and foot path sweep out at both extremes. I have driven their close to the parking area and just as I was passing the end of the parking zone the brakes suddenly and unexpectedly applied as in an emergency stop, "What the F---". The system had erroneously assumed that I was about to hit something and abruptly braked.

I'll take a false positive over a false negative any day of the week, but, yeah, when that happens, it can be 'disconcerting' to say the least.

My thoughts about the stop-start are that I'm not that keen. However I have noticed that after a spell of motorway driving, or driving where the turbo has been working more, it does seem to disable the stop-start, so it. ust know when the turbo needs cooling.

As for ACC, yes I agree its a bit clunky, but it obviously can only react to things, it can't anticipate as we can. However I've never found it unreliable with regard to braking, even up to a complete stop. My gripe is that, once it fully stops (eg at traffic light queue) it wont set off as the vehicle in front does. Even though my 2015 Golf did so the technology has been around long enough.

I have only just noticed that, in a really long boring 30 MPH village which traffic keeps slowing up and stopping at junctions to turn off, usually keeping moving to some extent, I use ACC I came to a halt behind something and expected a pull away and nothing happened it felt a bit weird. Needed a burst of throttle to get going again. So many idiosyncrasies between vehicles/manufacturers it's getting hard to know whether something is working as it should or designed to at least.

Agreed, not a big issue to dab the throttle I guess, but still when the tech exists it's just disappointing they didn't use it. I suppose its because they would have to fit an electric hand brake.

Start/Stop sucks big time.
So much so that I ignored my intense dislike for AliEx as there is no other source. A little 12 quid cable (approx 4 inch long) that sits behind the dash button between the button and original cable that simply holds the last position. So off remains off. Installs in seconds and is set & forget. Huge 'hit' in the German Transporter community for years. :D
Afetr 5 years of hitting the stop/start button every time, I finally got the Aliexpress thingamajig so that when I start the van it automagically defaults to OFF :) No longer have to remember to turn it off manually, and can turn it on only when desired.
