Is my T6 lowered and by how much?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to establish whether my recently purchased T6 T32 SWB Kombi is actually lowered, and if so, by roughly how much.

The van came fitted with Koni dampers and Eibach springs, although there are no visible markings on the springs so I can’t identify them.

The rear dampers are Koni Active (8205 1009), marked non adjustable. I haven’t managed to identify the fronts yet, but they are also Koni, so I assume they’re the matching front dampers.

Current setup:
  • T6 T32 SWB Kombi
  • Koni Special Active rear dampers (82-051009)
  • Koni front dampers (part number unknown)
  • 215/60 R17 tyres on OEM VW 17” wheels

To try and work it out, I measured from the centre of the wheel to the underside of the wheel arch on level ground. All four corners came out at approximately 420 mm.

Does that sound like standard ride height, around a 30 mm drop, or closer to a 40 mm drop?

The reason I’m asking is that I’m trying to decide on my next wheel and tyre setup. At the moment I’m torn between the below but undecided at the mo and have plenty time. I definitely want a setup that doesn’t rub or require any mods though. I just want to fit and forget.
  • 17” wheels (e.g fuel covert) with 235/65 R17 all-terrain tyres, or
  • 20” wheels with 265/40 R20 road tyres.

Any advice or measurements from other T32 owners with similar setups would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

How about measure from the centre of the wheel to the arch and compare with a known non modified T32?

Why do you need the figure?
To be honest. I suppose I was kind of disappointed there wasn’t a history provided with the van in terms of, if it had been lowered and how much.

It all comes down to my future wheel selection and if they will fit. If I know it’s lowered by x amount, at least I can factor into the process. The 235/65r17 are kinda big. Would just be good to get a reference point.

Your van looks around 20-30mm lower. You’ll not have any trouble fitting 235/65 17 on that.

Anyway let us know when you’ve measured it. We all want to know now! :)

I checked mine before having suspension updates;
‘18 T32 LWB FWD 150PS DSG Kombi.
460 front and 470 rear empty at 2 years old and ~ 3,500 miles.

You’re welcome.
Mine below, just before and after H&R -50mm T32 load-rated springs fitted.

Makes me think yours may be down the same?
If not, then at least -40mm, as standard T32s are slightly higher than others whilst empty.

The arch gaps are normally 460 mm centre of the wheel to the top of the arch , the T32 has a stronger spring in the rear and we often see 470mm . once the springs are changed this falls away . If you have active koni shocks dont go lower than it is currently , active shocks cant function normally if a vehicle is lowered too much .

Thanks. Appreciate your feedback. Going by the various responses from different folks, I think I’m kind of settled on the van is lowered by ~40mm.
I don’t suppose you (or anyone else reading this) would have any feedback on if the likes of Fuel Covert wheels fitted with 235/65/r17 falken At3 tyres would be fit and forget (e.g no rubbing) with it lowered ~40mm?

This should help. TLDR answer though is yes, they will fit and not rub.

Arch measurements are 420mm (40mm lower).

I cant guarantee this, but to me it looks like its had a wee drop. Its also sitting nice and level too. Compare it to my T6.1 with 18s when I first got it.
