Intermittent problem opening sliding door

I have viewed most of the ‘sliding door won’t open’ posts on the forum I think but I can’t find one relating to the problem on my T6 door. Sometimes it opens and other times it won’t. If it does it seems to be when the exterior pull handle is right at the end of its travel. A similar occurrence happens when trying the interior handle. It’s as if the cable has stretched. It is not a powered closing door.

Can anyone please throw any light on what might be the cause of this apart from cable stretch? Unfortunately I can’t remove the inner panel myself due to physical limitation.

Does it make any difference if the vehicle is on some sort of slope, side slope in particular. As a Rule mine is fine but on two or more occasions occasions since ownership 2019 mine has refused to open. On one occasion it was on a side slope. No further reoccurrence for quite some time then again another side slope. On other occasions side slope or not no problem. On one occasion recently door refused to open. Ran the engine a little while, it was below freezing over night then the door opened nor further problem. I suspect that the last time the rubber seals may have frozen. In the winter i may rub some silicone oil over the rubber to reduce condensation building and rubber sticking due to freezing. No Idea if a better method is available but it does seam to work . As the weather has recreantly warmed some one feels that icing is less likely to happen but when it does perhaps due to high humidity then freezing the seals are more likely to stick?

Just what has happened to me on irregular occasions but no further problems other than what I have said.

It doesn’t seem to matter if it’s on a slope or not thanks. It does appear to be mechanical in origin. Ironically it always opened fine in the winter but I do usually spray the seals in the autumn with silicone.
Thanks for your reply though.

I had a similar issue with the sliding door occasionally not opening - mainly from the inside but sometimes inside & out - until it wouldn’t open at all from the inside. All I did to cure it was spray the locking mechanism at the rear of the sliding door with WD40, and it’s worked perfectly ever since 🤷‍♂️

Many thanks for that idea. I didn’t have any WD40 to hand so I used a silicone spray and so far the door opens every time. Keeping my fingers crossed now. Thanks again.

Hi , I have issue with side doors not closing when parked on a slope on T6 Caravelle . Doors will open on a slope but not close - either using dash switches or door handles - switching ignition off/on doesn’t work . If I drive to flat ground doors will close .
