I left it very late to reserch!

Apologies in advance for spelking and typos, dyslexic and have a neuro problem with my hads!

Anyway, having decided to lower my budget and NOT get a new Transit MSRT i decided to go for a Transporter, arround 25k. I need LWB and DSG and will be off all iver europe, i wanted it to also look good!

Today i found a 2016 LWB DSG 4 motion in black, one owner from new, full history, high spec woth the 180 engine. All good i thought. Then i read uo on the engine! Its done 105k, should i walk away? Im confused as some say by 2016 it was sorted? Im still off to look at it at 10am but i coukd eo with some help. Ir if anone had anything feel free to send me a link!

Ill be using the van for fishing btw!

It sounds like this one is in the year range of the bad EGRs with the biturbo engine.
Unless the EGR has been blanked off, or replaced etc I would avoid it.

Welcome to the forum - I have neuro problems with my wallet caused by chronic vanspendulitis

Hmmmm tricky one that. The mileage is fine. It may not be a euro 6 engine though as a few of the 2016's are euro5.

The bad EGR should have long been swapped out - hopefully they have receipts for all works,

However if it's a bi Turbo take a hard pass

With your budget there will be plenty of options as more and more folk sell their T6's and buy a cheapo Transitporter (spits) - resist the urge to rush this.

Post the ad and let us have a look

Also, they're no good for fishing, they don't float unless you get a high top and flip it

Here is the advert, his communication by WhatsApp has been very good with lots of video etc and all questions answered.

Nothing wrong with a CFCA engine IF it’s had a Tafmet emulator kit installed before the EGR started to disintegrate.
The only reliable non invasive way to check the condition of the engine is an oil analysis and for that you will need accurate input data.

Depending on the time of year you're travelling around Europe, a black van is going to get much. Not so bad when you're travelling (assuming air con works), but once parked up, it's going to be much harder to keep cool.

Ok so I've been to see it, its immaculate really good service history.

Its got the D cooler for the egr but has the CFCA engine. The owner doesnt recall the coller being changed.

I think rhats the right thing i was looking at.

Rev D EGR is better than the previous versions but not a remedy, as my previous post regarding Tafmet emulator
Plus oil change history, as with all the BiTurbo engine variants; 7-10K mile interval, anything more than 10K run away.

Its done 108k since new, been serviced sometimes 2 times per year. History is early days VW main dealer, then a specerlist about 45 mins away.

It looks mint. If you didn't decide to buy it there and then, you need to keep looking I think. It is not the only van. Good luck regardless

Alot of cash to roll the dice on.

Alarm bells all over this one for me.

I bought my van with a very similar interior, off a man near Stevenage who, coincidentally went to France in it for carp fishing.
He was selling it, because he was tired of sleeping on an inflatable bed , with no proper fixed cooking facilities or toilet , washing room.
He sold it to me and I converted it.
He bought a proper converted van , as a carpeted and ply lined van just wasn't suitable for his week long fishing expeditions

If the CFCA engine is the only concern;
Tafmet kit - Y or N - No walk away. Y - do an oil analysis, around £45 and 3 day wait.
No point in using the crystal ball method.

Appreciate that this would be a reason to consider but I wouldn't go to the effort personally, would you? If it's got suspiciously low mileage over the past year or two and has just had an oil change, will the results of an oil analysis be a fare and true and indicative of health? Appreciate these engines are potentially fine if they are serviced excessivley (twice a year for peace of mind?)

I believe the OP is here for advice and thus far the majority advice has been to avoid the biTDI engine. If you had a £25k budget and needed an LWB DSG would you be considering this?

I think the Leighton kit looks great on this and a I love a black van (i don't like constantly cleaning them though) and it does look very clean. But it's got over 100kmiles and there are other vans at a similar price or cheaper with less miles and a better engines

Slightly over budget and not styled out below.

To be honest the milage in the last few years wasnt a issue for me, i had a brand bew transit leighton on the drive, a range rover SVR, a Defender, and a work van! He said this was used to go to and from his house in the lakes (abput 40 mins away) reason for sale is he somomy isnt using it.

From all the history i didnt see the colller had been chamged so presumed it was on from new.

Can i ask how many people actually have that cfca wngine and not had a issue? I really thought it was the cooler that was the problem. Tbh i did think of doing a pil sample test!
