I Hate Tambour Doors....

Driving my van is now a test of my patience. My tambour doors rattle constantly.

Has anyone come up with an alternative? My only plan so far is to manufacture some doors..

Cheers.

Try some tape on the back of the door and then some 3m foam tape in the track if the rattle is there..
The tape should hold them steadier.

I’ve got one vertical and one horizontal tambour door in my NWCC converted van, no rattles or any other problems.
Could it be the grooves they run in are too wide?

I used some black tesa tape and made a wedge that the door slides into when fully shut. This removes most of the rattle.

I had a good look at them today and they’re rattling in the grooves. It’s a constant irritant when driving. Not sure how I’m going to solve this one. I’ve stuffed cushions behind them for now to add some pressure. Think I’ll go down manufacturing some doors.

a strip of stick on draught excluder either side in the channel:thumbsup:

Problem is, they’re crap to start with and don’t open & shut properly anyway. Putting more in the grooves will stop them moving at all.

I've got a horizontal tambour door and it never rattles. I think it's probably down to the manufacturer's tolerances whether they rattle in their tracks or not.

We didn't want tambour doors in our conversion, but they are a necessary evil for practical purposes. However they don't rattle at all. Apparently there are tambour doors & there are tambour doors

This worked for me @zombie_T6! Thanks for the tip.

Tesa tape along the length of the the grooves created a nice tight channel for the doors to slide in.

3x strips added enough thickness to close the gap where the doors sit. Applied on both the top and bottom runners.

A nice cheap and easy fix, and no more rattles.

Don’t like them also, too problematic but most of this is down to how they have been designed/fitted. Even OEM California ones are bad and we have repaired numerous ones. They are ok in offices and kitchens but in a moving vehicle….. I stay clear of them.

Depends if the rattle is the width of the track or the vertical spacing of track. There needs to be some tolerance for them to operate so there will be a rattle of some kind. If the track is too wide you need to thicken the slats, tape previously mentioned should work. If the tracks too far apart vertical , you’ll need to reposition the track to make the gap narrower. Or again use tape of some form on the bottom of door or in the track.

There are varying quality doors on the market I would agree. Still don’t like them though….:confused:
