I hate Bournemouth... now... V3.11...

Not so sure these days - seems half the country relies on being fed by people riding bikes.
not around here very few other than the post office or Amazon appear to even find our roadside Post and parcel Box's amazingly enough I met an n old now gone Posti who used to deliver the Post to my Farm by Horse. No one delivering has ever even been to the property in the last 30 or more years they certainly went the last mile back in those days.

Strange how demonstrably reducing road death, serious injury, and insurance claims (and thus policy cost) is so unpopular there.
You could extrapolate that & deduce that setting the limit to zero would further reduce road deaths & insurance premiums. The statistics would then show that horses & push bikes kill more people than cars

revenue raising goes some way towards explaining other possible reasons for dropping the speed limit on this section compared to the original 40mph a hundred metres further down.
The houses on the 40mph section are further set back - even the closest have a single-lane (plus small verge) between them and the main road, and mine has probably another 20 yards of verge as well as a slightly wider section of the old main road, and a 40 ft front garden. The noise is much worse on the 30 mph section, even with the reduced limit.

In terms of revenue though, central grant to BCP was cut from £106M to around 8M in a year, and told by the government they could make this up with efficiencies. Which is clearly a load of tosh but the topic of another subject!

They didnt refund everyone...My other got done over on that little money making scheme!
I knew I hadn't made it up, I contributed to Jason Smithers money making scheme too, the b'stard has retired now to concentrate on his business empire... the chip shop in Rushden. 🥸

100 miles a day, fair play. You should dust off the bike and join the T6 Forum Strava club.
Much younger then but that is not it if some one keeps something up then they can keep going if maybe over time a little slower but stopping and then going after decades probably not Bike was nothing special. I used to climb also but getting out of bed is enough!

I know people that have taken up cycling in retirement- gets them out the house for hours, seeing sights, interacting with like minded folk and supporting cafes, all while keeping them fit. In fact in some cases the doctors suggested it.
Some used to cycle others not really.
My dad has just had a replacement heart valve and the doctors can’t believe how fit he is and how fast he’s recovered. He cycled too and from work every day until retirement. Furthest place was ‘only’ 13 miles from home but he’d sometimes ride in his lunch hour too.
I need to get cycling a bit more, the heart condition is hereditary and if I have to get a new valve at some point I’d like to be as fit as the old man.

I live in SW London/KT7 area and when I go elsewhere in the county to visit, and it was Bournemouth recently, it was a shock how fast people drive down little streets. I did a ride down to Swanage and back, Highcliffe, Bournemouth and Poole is a shocker when you are riding a bike. I think there are a lot more 20 zones here so most people are driving at 25, instead of 35-50 as it felt. Buying an old Lancia as we speak I wonder if I will drive faster or slower in that?

An old Lancia will feel fast as you'll probably be able to see the road surface whizzing by between your feet. :geek:
Going to Swanage on a push bike from Westbourne and I think I would have rode down along the prom then onto the road by the Jazz Cafe and on along Sandbanks, across on the chain ferry along Studland behind the beach then off road at the Knoll on the grass above Old Harry and across to Swanage.
Virtually no monstrous SUVs or other tarmac predators and only people walking five abreast to contend with.
See I do actually like Bournemouth just not the property over developed way it's gone in the last 30 yrs.

Plenty of accidents in Poole and Bournemouth. It like a rat race up and down the side streets trying to beat the traffic no time for anyone. Not everyone is like that of course but one does see it, at night it is surprising more people are not seriously hurt. I think that it appears to me like a city that never sleeps, a lot going on. Some of the leafy suburbs are very pleasant but their is plenty of older places being knocked down and new build. Seems like their are plenty of vehicle dealerships in the town, take your pick. I know that their is a very good VAG Aftermarket fitment centre in the area also. My wife did all of the driving, I do not go that way very often, In Laws only one now, wrong one unfortunately. Wifies sister and I believe other long not seen relatives. Our daughter is in the UNI there also. I am really glad and relieved that we made her do miles and miles of long journeys day and night before she took her test so she had a very high mileage count and driving comes naturally to her. Assertive but not aggressive, thinks ahead, enjoys driving and makes good decisions. She is very strict with any friend that she takes out, on how they behave when she is driving no fooling or long walk back! We bought her a Dacia Duster 4x4, a more recent one just before her test. Not as fast as the vehicle she learnt in. They handle really well, nice firm damping, very impressed. Put some uprated halogen dipped beam bulbs in and reset the beam as it was looking at the floor added Michelin Cross climate 2 on all 4's, should have waited for the 3's but wanted decent rubber on from the off. Has quite a good sized boot, loads of space. Has excellent ground clearance very good off road. Daughter wants a snorkel, she has Off Road driving in her blood has already been camping in it. I had better watch it, she might have eyes on our Caravelle 4Motion but she has never had a go in it anyway she tells us she prefers a manual change. She has always considered doing the advanced driver test even before she took up driving. The other tests that she is interested in is an HGV or / and Train Driver not quite sure where she got the latter from. I would say that she drives like a man but without the idiocy or bravado that can affect younger men, that is balls no brain. Clinical keeps to her own side of the road when pressing on prefers interesting twisty cross country roads day or night. I think she will be safe driving in Bournemouth for the remaining month or so. :):D
