Webasto Problem

Hi all. My brother in law has a t5 fitted with a webasto airtop 2000 st. Last time we were away together, when he struck up his heater it was producing clouds of white smoke. When we were back home I took it off for him and stripped it on the bench. It was obvious that at some point they had been through some deep water as it was wet and rusty inside. I dried and cleaned it then re assembled. It started and ran OK but still a lot of visible vapor. If I disconnected the exhaust silencer the exhaust was clear - I concluded from this is was wet in the silencer so ran it longer and it cleared.
The only problem now is the heater does not seem to respond to the temperature setting - it seems to run at a fixed speed/output which is OK but there is obviously something else damaged by the water ingress.
Any heater gurus could point me in the right direction please? Inlet temperature sensor?
Many thanks

Rust inside is very normal. As far as fixed speed, you don't exactly have direct control over the speed. Only the set temperature. The heater speed is directly tied to the heater heat output, which the minimum set temperature is about 5 C, so it will always been in full speed (no matter where the dial is set) if the room is below 5 deg C. Once the room is above this temperature, then you can change the heat level desired which will lower or raise the fan speed.
