Headlight installation - Manchester area, plus Bluemotion query

Hi,

My H4 headlights were discolouring. Bought Turtlewax headlight cleaner - made it so much worse - ended up with like a wire wool effect (assume fibres from cloth hardened or something)

Tried Autoglym Headlight restorer kit - gone from bad to terrible - obv drill speed was too high as sandpaper melted onto headlights, oops!

Obv a good thing - forces an upgrade - a little constrained by budget so looking at THQ v2 or v3. Obv it's a bumper off job - I know it's relatively straightforward job - but given disaster above it's not a job for me! Can anyone recommend a garage in the Greater Manchester area - usual want trustworthy place that will not charge silly amount for straightforward job.

Read all the forums but one area of confusion still - I have Euro 5 Blue motion - I though Headlight units are same across THQ, Vanstyle etc - below is on Vanstyles website - but no mention on THQ's website - does anyone know if THQ's would require reprogram?

*Please note if you have a BlueMotion van in order for these lights to work correctly and not illuminate the warning light on your dash you will have to reprogram your van using a VAG-COM and the bulb monitoring turning off to dip and high beam as the BlueMotion vans have different wiring looms.

Thanks in advance

Where about in Manchester are you? I am sure there will be forum members around willing to give you ah hand for some beer tokens.

Dead easy to do yourself , just take your time and we'll hold your hand through it .
No great loss killing the old ones tbf

Sand the lens by hand with fine (1200 then 1500) wet n dry keeping very wet. They will look horrific after this.
Then get a polishing pad on the drill and give them a good wizz with a mild cutting paste then do the same again with Maguires plast RX and they should come up like new. I've done that a couple of times on my Audi headlights.
But obviously if you want the excuse to get new lights then go for it - it's refreshing to actually see where you are going lol.
I've had a pair of perfect H4 in the cellar for 5 years and took them to the tip last month. Typical.

Lol - I nearly put would anyone be able to do it, but thought that might come across as bit cheeky

I know it is a simple job - but would much rather someone in the know do it - and learn from that

When it went wrong I did kind of smile as knew it meant an upgrade - should have done it well before now

My only ask - and I hope this doesn't come across wrong - is that its someone who's been there and done it vs experimenting on me if that's OK

So - genuinely tried to read all the threads... So v2 or v3 of THQ!? Standard or Racing Line bulbs (longevity worried me)!? THQ LED bulb they say will pass MOT as can't be spotted - but in one of their videos actually say illegal to install, so think avoid those? I know its been done soooo many times but setup recommendations welcome as conflicting views

Thanks for the help. I'm sure that would work - but decided to upgrade - the Mrs complains she doesn't like driving van at night as H4's so useless, so this will help somewhat. I did mention full LED upgrade but go that look - so sticking with THQ ones. THQ's own full LED still not available.

I'd be happy to assist.

In Stockport.
That's really appreciated and likely will take you up on this. I need to order and then can sort things out.

I live in Denton so obviously location wise is perfect

Per above - and really hope it doesn't cause offence, think you're more than well versed doing this kind of thing?

Well, I'm not exactly handy but I have swapped mine twice, H4s to H7s, then to newer H7s.

With a refresh viewing of the THQ YouTube video we will be fine!

Forgot to say, I have Carista for the coding, will have to pay for a month's subscription but it's cheap enough.

If there are any other Carista mods you want we can do those too.

Almost effortless, just use a rag not abrasives.
Used by UK MOD for decades, google for best price (normally ebay)
