Glow plug flashing.

Hi, It's a 204 cxeb,61,000 miles, 2018. Recently it seemed strange that when turning the ignition on to start you could let go of the key and it would then start a couple of seconds later. I had a Nox sensor fitted around 3 months ago after the engine management light came on. The engine management light came back on about 4 weeks ago, then it disappeared, last week it returned, booked it back into the garage for this coming Friday. Then Friday evening it was around 1 degree outside, I went to start it and the glow plug started flashing, that also is intermittent, rang the garage and told them that there was something else to look at. I put the obd on and got the following codes that I have tried to find out what they are but to no avail.

If anyone knows what these ones are it would be great, I had the charge cooler changed over a year ago, it's been Pendled around a year ago. I get the oil and filter changed every 6 months, serviced regularly....treat it like a member of the family, not that I'd want to scrub up and polish them every week. :eek:
 
Can you upload the full diagnostic scan?
It's an Icarsoft OBD2 , I'm not that adept with it in all honesty, just plug in and let it run , then check the fault codes, I haven't looked to see if there is a full diagnostic scan as yet. I ordered one of the Ross-tech vcds units first thing today , so Thursday hopefully will learn how to use it correctly.

Hi Loz, firstly many thanks for your replies, I don't post often but I enjoy the site. So, this morning I had the time to connect the VCDS, It has shown the following, 16056-oil pressure switch P164B 00 (104) Malfunction-intermittent-confirmed- tested since memory clear
33262 - Reductant system performance bank 1 -P204F-00 (096). Malfunction-intermittent-not confirmed tested since memory clear
31103 SCR NOx Catalyst bank 1. P20EE (104) efficiency too low -intermittent- tested since memory clear
I thought I'd put the whole thing on there , I had the van into my local garage for an interim service last Friday, they did kind of treat me with a little indifference by saying that with the codes I should just go to Volkswagen to sort it....Or maybe I should find someone who actually cares ? Maybe that's just me being grumpy...lol. The glow plug light which was intermittent has been off for the last 5 days of driving, the engine management light is still on. Not sure if mentioning that makes any difference. Is it too simple to say just replace the oil pressure switch ? Plus as the NOx sensor was renewed not that long ago is there a plausible reason that's showing up ? Having delved around the forum I came across a post regarding the NOx and it seemed to end up being about the Ad blue level and not the sensor itself.
Lastly should I now be delving deeper into the vcds and finding out anything else ?

Does the glow plug light switch on with ignition and then go off within a few seconds? If so I think that is normal and will depend on the temperature. The light will switch on to show that the plugs are heating and then switch off. During the colder times of the year it will delay ignition whilst it takes slightly longer to warm (still only a few seconds) please ignore if I missed the point and you knew this already.

Hi, well I knew parts of it, the first time the light came on it was late at night and very cold, but it remained the next day. I had noticed this winter what seemed odd to me the slight delay on the ignition having turned the key and let it go the delay in starting up , my other T6 doesn't do it nor my XC40 , but every vehicle I suppose is slightly different.
I'm glad about your reply thank you, It's always good to have information put in front of you rather than spending hours hunting around.
It might be worth saying that the glow plug light then came on and off at different times when running and the temperature was around 5 degrees.
 
No problem Ian, my T6 102 is the same, the winter cold days have delayed ignition by a few seconds. During the warmer days you won’t even notice, Diesel engines can actually start without glow plugs under the heat caused by compression alone.
 
It would be best if you posted the full unedited VCDS scan (you can remove the last few digits of your vin if you want)

ok, so theres a few things highlighted there some of which will be erroneous errors and some maybe not
As is often the case with VCDS scans the dates are all over the place so using the mileage as a reference some of the faults are recent and a few seem historical (under 100k kms)

If it was me i would clear all faults using VCDS this will get rid of the old and/or irrelevant stuff, then do another scan and see what faults immediately come back, then after the vans been driven a bit check again and see if anything else comes back, some faults wont develop until the engine has been running (like the SCR/adblu system etc)
 
Looks like you have LED headlights in travel mode, go into the settings on the instrument cluster and untick travel mode (unless you are currently abroad ?) after you have done this and reset the errors i believe all the errors other than module 1 will clear

Once you know what errors are persistent then you can target you attention to those
 
It's usually a good idea to use non-aggressive scan mode.
This mode doesn't report ancient faults/glitches - also the results would be consistent with VW diagnostics. E.g. I would expect P204F to "disappear".

Thanks Pauly, I did notice the LED headlights had been left set to the wrong side after a trip abroad recently, I changed that this afternoon , I will do what you and MMI suggest and see what happens, it's great of you all to help.
