Gearbox whine

Morning all

I used my van for a couple of longer trips last week and have noticed a new noise seemingly from the gearbox

In 5 th gear at almost exactly 65 MPH there is a distinctive whine, it does this more when the van it hot hence noticing it more on longer trips

It doesnt seem to do it in any other gear and it is ok above and below that speed it is just at that particular speed / revs

The clutch also feels ' different ' and sometimes judders when in reverse especially when it feels ' lumpy ' going backwards

Any ideas ? I have contacted the dealer also as I suspect it will have to go in

Van has only done 26 k :-(

5 speed manual gearboxes are not great, common failure and do not like excessive abuse / power mapping.
Have a Search and you’ll find plenty of cases.
First port of call is to drain the gear oil, check the quantity drained and check with a magnet for steel debris.
Ensure you can get the filler plug out before draining.

So mine is making a whine on acceleration in 4th/5th and also whiming on the overrun in 4th. Getting a slight wobble at 40mph too so im trying to figure out if its possibly driveshafts. Van is a 2023, 28k miles, no remap and a camper so not driven harsh at all. Under extended warranty but vw glasgow are saying its 'the characteristics' of the van but I just dont buy it. Its also rattling a lot on cold startup until you press the clutch down, but DMF and clutch have been replaced twice now.

Maybe you expectations of a commercial vehicle don’t match reality. It’s a load hauling donkey, overpriced at that.
