Hi all

As per title I have just fully rebuilt my t6 4motion manual 150bhp after engine faulure and all is good except for a horrible grinding noise on second gear

I have drained and refilled the front transfer box which took around 0.8l liters of genuine vw oil supplied specifically for the it by vw parts

I dont remember draining the gearbox when I stripped everything but I am planning to drian and refill just to rule it out as the cause of the noise

Can anyone help with location of fill hole on the manual 4motion t6 gearbox as it does not seem to have the same large Allan head plug that the fwd ones do in images found online

Any help appreciated

There is some mention of later vans not having a filling plug, not sure if this applies to yours. Part of VWs low cost (no) service regime.
Have a Search, some have changed the oil through a gearbox port after removing the neutral switch, far from ideal.

Thanks for that I'll have a search

Yes that's definitely not ideal especially when I dont know how far from full it is 🤨

The only way to know much oil it has is to drain and measure it. You never do that before you identify a means of filling, oil spec and quantity required. Don’t rely on AI for the details

I had this challenge, 19 plate 4mo 6 speed, has a drain plug but no filler/level plug

Believe it should be 2.7l

Draining the box I had 2.4l come out

Refilled through the reverse light switch
