I am chasing an annoying rattle coming from somewhere in my drivetrain that I and my VW specialist has been struggling to track down.
the noise only seems to occur when in 5th gear, and it stays at a constant sound / speed regardless of speed and engine revs.
I have had a brand new LUK DMF and clutch. Brand new clutch release bearing, pressure plate, and I have had a complete gearbox overhaul. So I can try and rule out these as the culprit.
The only thing that is currently ringing an alarm bell is the reverse light switch appeared to give up a few weeks ago all of a sudden, the reverse lights would stay on after putting the van in reverse and taking it back to neutral. Easy fix, and I have since fitted a new genuine switch. I tested the old switch and it seemingly didn’t appear to have an issue with a continuity test. But I have noticed that the brand new switch is also not working correctly, when you put the van into reverse and push the gear lever all the way, the reverse lights do not come on until you take your hand off the gear lever, and some times there is a a delay in the light coming on, almost like the tab that activates the switch isn’t positioning correctly.
I have seen replacement turrets for £230 brand new genuine, but my main question is, does anyone know if it’s just a case of taking off the ‘carriage levers’ and taking out the 2 bolts and with drawing the old one, and then just literally the reverse to install the new one?
I have tried to see if there is a gearbox manual on the forum but have struggled to find anything.
