DSG Oil Change Schedule?

I read that one of the 7 Speed DSGs only needs its servicing every 80k miles instead of every 40k ish like all the others, but I don’t know how to find out which “DQ” variant my gearbox is to know if it’s in that category.

I know my 2011 T5.1 2.0 140 Caravelle Exec has the gearbox with code MXZ, but the servicing interval info out there mostly talks about DQ500 etc and lumps a lot of the codes together.

Can anyone shed any light?

(I ask this question on the one of the Facebook forums and folk talked like I was daft, but it’s definitely info that exists out there, and obvs if I can save a few bob by waiting til 80k miles then I will!)

Cheers.

the DQ381 has a 80k miles service, but don't believe it was used for the Transporter, only for some smaller VW cars like the Golf etc.
I have a chart somewhere and will post it if I can find it.

I got a phonecall from vw reminding me about the dsg oil change at 40k....won't be going with them though, will be using an independent garage...vw want too much..

Ahhh that makes sense then as to where the mention of 80k has come from. Excellent. Thanks!

It's every 40k and for a shade over £200 at an independent, worth every penny.
Couldn’t agree more re the value, I’ve just hit 41k and will be getting it booked in as soon as funds allow

Hello all ...
I have a 2019 T6 ..... I understand the DSG7 + 4motion service internal is 60,000Km or 40Kmiles or 3years ... for me that means 3yrs.
I have seen a few videos with the ridiculous upwards fill, special tool and some kind of pumping and long tubes .... Then I am asking .... Is is not possible and thus simpler to fill from the TOP with the filter OFF i.e. through the filter hole before putting the new filter on ???
Also .. looking at this service kit .... FEBI BILSTEIN - 171772 .... any comments .. good or bad ??
all comments very welcome
any links to a similar kit for the 4motion would be appreciated too :)

You can add oil from the top but I would stick to the correct way using the fill tube kit which is very straightforward as long as you get the vehicle high enough from the ground to work on - making sure the vehicle is level. The kits are available on Amazon. To avoid warranty problems I only use genuine VW oil and filters.

Also your use of the van could be a factor. Before we converted the van the first 4 years it was towing a caravan all round Europe so on the basis the transmission is working a bit harder I had the dsg service done at 30,000 k miles, also the haldex done earlier.

warranty .... How long is the warranty for DSG + Haldex (mine is coming around to 6yrs) ??
6yrs so second DSG+Haldex service is due soon ... it's why I ask ;)

ironically i found the opposite here, when I did my Polo last year, I suspect the indy will be cheaper when it somes to the van though.

Whatever warranty ie manufacturers or aftermarket warranty it will be far easier to make a claim if the box has been maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications - plus if you have all the receipts for servicing.

I meant what period ... how many years ... I assume it's not indefinite ....
If it's out of warranty ... then the only and anyway main issue ... is reliability ... so getting/doing a good job done.
If it's in warranty period then really are stuck with paying a pro.

For precise clarification contact VW Customer service immediately via email and a follow up phone call. I have always understood the DSG service interval is 40000 miles or 4 Years. I have never heard of 37000 miles interval and it sounds like a made up story. If the warranty team are making up the mileage of 37000 then put them on notice of legal action. What symptoms of failure are you experiencing? I hope you get a satisfactory resolution. Good Luck.

Yeah so it's looking like a European thing where they state 60,000km the VW UK has previously stated or rounded upto 40,000 miles

It seems to be in May 2026 they have changed it to 37,000

Like stated I've all the evidence I need to prove my van was done last year in September at 39,007 miles

The gear box has started with Issues on Christmas day I was stuck in some snow In Andorra, we managed to rectify the problem at the time and managed to put another 1000 miles on the clock driving home without any issues

But at around 42,500 miles it's caused problems and they've been investigating it since January

I have been told by garages that it's 40,000 miles it's only been last week they've sent out "a specialist" who's pointed out it needed done at 37,000 miles

Ahhhh , so your vehicle is not registered in the UK? That does change my perspective on the UK service interval

No my vehicle is registered in the UK

But UK VW have just changed the rules saying they're now going with a mileage more closely related to the 60,000 kilometres that is the recommended mileage in Europe

Prior to May 2026 they rounded this up to 40,000 miles
