Dash Lights Flickering

Good morning all,

I have an issue with the dashboard lights fading and brightening when I am driving. It is the clocks and computer that do this, as though I am rolling the dash-dimmer switch. It doesn’t happen all the time and turning the lights off, obviously stops it, as does opening a door (illuminating the computer display in the centre of the clocks). Messing with the dash-dimmer has no effect (although the toggle works)

The van is a 2017 Caravelle Exec, with a Westfalia towbar (which I know splices into the headlight wiring near the main switch) and I have also had the headlights swapped for genuine LED’s by Hazzy Dayz (all working fine externally).

Has anyone had a similar issue or an idea of where to look first please?

Thanks,

Dave O

I thinks it’s by design to warn you the headlights aren’t on (assuming it doesn’t do it all the time)
Haven’t noticed it myself but sure I’ve seen a few posts on this somewhere if you have a search around

Hi Pauly

Yes that sounds similar, although my van has Auto lights. The display is flickering on and off like a disco, so if they are on a daylight sensor, maybe that’s cream-crackered.
I need to use the van this weekend and didn’t want this to cause an electrical fire/breakdown from a bad earth etc?

You could try try a BCM reset . . .

@Johnod17 had something similar

Lights On Dash Pulsing (after Flat Battery) >

Lights On Dash Pulsing (after Flat Battery)

***********************************

Note: If you have multiple batteries . . . . DISCONNECT ALL OF THEM BEFORE DOING THIS

**************************************

Reset the BCM by disconnecting BOTH the battery leads and touching them together for a few mins. (capacitive discharge)

then reconnect the leads to the battery and retest . . . . . Be careful not to short out the battery.!

Thanks for that. Any idea where I find that and how I can test it?
It's in the "E" box under the battery but I would try the @Dellmassive reset with the battery disconnected and leads touched together to reset it first.

Beyond that, it will be a dealer diagnosis job.

Men does this all the time. If the light switch is set to off then the dash lights dim when it thinks the headlights should be on. The sensor is very sensitive and will frequently turn my lights on and off during the day if, for example, I'm driving down a tree lined road.
Try setting the light switch to auto, this should solve the problem, if not then it sounds like a fault.

I'm sure I've seen in vcds somewhere the threshold values for this..

RLS - rain & Light sensor

I would be good if you could adjust the light settings. It ridiculously over sensitive, which is why I leave mine in the off position.
a bit off topic . . . . . but about the RLS. (scanned today)

byte1/2 - you can adjust the index for the Rain/Glass/light settings.

byte0 - the "08- Light Activation Thershold earlier" 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%

not sure exactly how this will effect the light switch on limits . . . . it will need testing.

there is a on/off delay somewhere too, not sure where . . . . that stops the lights cycling on/off. ie set in X-seconds.

I understand none of the above but will be very keen to hear the outcome of your testings.
