Cup holder removal

Help, I have an annoying rattle under the dash cup holder. I thought it would just pop out but apparently not ! Does anyone know how to remove the cup holders on a T6 dash?

They unscrew, usually take a bit of brute force

I had an annoying rattle under my cup holder too. Thought perhaps something had fallen between dashboard and windscreen. Used a boroscope to have a good look round but nothing. Turned out it was actually a screw that had fallen out inside the courtesy light above my head.

I can easily remove the passenger side cup holder by turning it anti-clockwise / towards the passenger door. But the driver side cup holder is not for turning!
I'm trying to turn it both clockwise / towards the driver door and anti-clockwise / towards the gear stick, and nothing.

To remove the driver side cup holder which way should it turn? so that I can concentrate on that direction?
Also, if its completely stuck any tips on how to free it up?

I need to remove it to clean. It's filthy.
