Configuration Thoughts

Hi all,

After some advice from those that have been there and done it!

I've got my LWB T6.1 into a half-decent position now, where it's ready for electrics/furniture, and I've come to the conclusion that my initial layout may not be the way forward (notably due to cost). I've a factory Kombi with front captain seats, and a rear bench, and my initial plan was to replace the bench with two single RIB seats, to facilitate our kids when traveling, and they'd lay flat for beds in the evening (the wife and I would be in the pop top).

However, the cost of the x2 RIB single seats was too much for me to swallow, therefore I'm re-thinking my plan. I am now thinking I'd have the two captain seats up front (I still need to add a swivel to the drivers seat), keep the factory bench seat behind, to transport the small-people, then have a U-shape style social area at the back, where we'd eat/play and ideally cook.

Similar to this image - Tailgate to the left of the pic, with potentially a small double sized bed length ways covering the long storage, other storage and porta-loo spot, which would be seating down the drivers rear side and behind the bench seat, and an area (potentially slimline) to cook with via a gas hob, and a small sink to wash up/brush our teeth.

We will, at some point have a tent off of one of the side doors too, for additional storage/living space.

Appreciate your experienced thoughts!, but for the price of the 2 RIB seats I can pretty much cover the furniture, and electrics - hence the pontification!

While I think about it too. Perhaps investigate making the cooking area as slim as possible, to facilitate some additional width for the tail to back of bench seat bed.

Not having much joy with “bespoke” units creation.

Any camper furniture companies you’d recommend, who could fabricate after a chat etc?

Don’t replace the bench if it’s a double rear bench, You can move the double bench to the back and create sth like I have posted in this thread: Can the double bench from a 2+1 fit in the 3rd row?

I personally think it’s the most versatile camper option. It works super well even with a 30kg dog beast and my partner😆

Worth a think tbh.
Happy to tell you more about my setup if you’re interested it’s basic but has everything you need as a windsurfer.

Best

Ah I forgot to mention because it’s not visible in the images on the thread. I have a swb and a passenger single seat swivel. It creates a nice sitting and living area together with the bench.

I also used the side furniture setup from the guys at van furniture. It’s the 120 version (the not super slim slim version 😆)

It was easy to assemble and get in the van with a bit of diy fitting. Can recommend for a decent quality conversion that dos not break the bank.

Cheers

Thanks for the info.

It’s a full width triple bench, which we tested out for a night. It was a pain to have to get out of the van to get in to the rear via the tail - we’ve a rear elevating pop-top. That’s the main reason we are going to swap the bench for two single, beds for the kids, but also a walkway through to the rear.

The VW California double seat / bed rail system has to be one of the simplest, best made and flexible options for a small van.
Not particularly cheap but it’s worth the £.

It looks great yep, but we’ve an age gap between our boy and girl, hence we are looking at the two single beds the RIB single seats offer.
