Collision Avoidance - nuisance trip?

Was driving around a roundabout yesterday evening and the collision avoidance kicked in and slammed the brakes on - scared me, and the dog! Luckily there was not a vehicle too close behind.

Traffic wasn't heavy (nothing in front of me), speed was low (~15mph). There was a car in the lane to my left and slightly ahead - but a very normal junction.

Don't know whether to assume the radar picked up that car to my left and got confused or that the system has an issue. Either way, I'm a little nervous to drive it again for fear of another emergency stop!

Has anyone had any similar experiences?

I had it happen to me the other day. I was approaching a roundabout where a single lane widened into two. The left hand lane had stationary traffic pretty much up to where the two lanes started. I wanted the right hand lane, which was empty. There was room to pass the left hand lane traffic without slowing, but unlit I began to turn, I was on a collision course. Just as I started to filter right, the van braked heavily, but a split second later once I was fully in the clear right hand lane, the brakes released and it carried on as normal.

I guess it can't know what we are intending to do, so has to assume we are all stupid.

T6 or T6.1 . . . ?

i normally get moaned when im closing in on a parked bus and plan to overtake it.

it normally kicks in if you are accelerating towards a stopped vehicle

I think my van has this feature. My thought was how do you know its working without testing it. Then could get messy if its broken lol.

Use some carboard boxes maybe??
That dont work, the low power RF radio waves don't reflect off the cardboard well enough.

But they do reflect back well off big lumps of metal, like cars, vans & busses.

Unfortunately the radar doesn't detect watery fleshy creatures called humans either . . . !!! - so don't expect it to stamp on the brakes if a pedestrian jumps out in front of you.

Auto makers are now moving to front facing cameras as part of the collision avoidance.

as well as using the front Radar and even Ultrasonic to feed into the system.

but a Tin-foil lined box may work.

AFAIK T6.1 come standard with:

  • Cruise control including speed limiter
  • Forward collision warning incl. autonomous emergency braking, without adaptive cruise control
  • Leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel (3-spoke)
  • Digital radio reception
  • App-Connect

T6 with non-adaptive cruise. I've had it moaning at me when gaining on a vehicle that has slowed to turn left.

I think you're right. With a parked bus or a vehicle turning left, it makes sense that it would make the decision to warn the driver and/or slam the brakes on based on direction of travel, closing speed etc. It's just that the situation last night was entirely normal driving conditions.

Watched a video the other with a guy testing it out and tin foil boxes don't work either.
