Sliding door handle, has 2 clips on rear

Has anyone mastered how to get the upper of these two clips to fit correctly ? It’s some black magic .. I’ve spent hours only to have to accept that the top clip may or may not be in.. the bottom clip fits obviously and draws the cover in tight but the top clip is a pita and you’re never sure if it’s in or it’s sort of half bent and actually causing more of a problem than not being used at all.
