Caravelle exec pop top conversion

Hey! Just wondering if any of you ever found someone to to the job and went for it?!

I know skylow do it, it's just £700 ontop of the normal conversion cost. But I don't really like they're approach to carpeting. It doesn't look OEM at all, so was hoping for an alternative!

I’ve had my Caravelle for 6 years now and have not fitted a pop top since considering it early on. For me it’s 1) cost as the quote I got to have the air con vents and controls relocated to accommodate the roof plus install etc was around 7K from memory. It’s quite a job with the AC stuff if you want it to look as OEM as possible.

2) in my situation it’s only me that sleeps in the van as I use it when working away. For holidays we tow our touring caravan which accommodates us all in comfort. I don’t think the 3 of us would be comfortable in the T6 even with the pop top, it’s also very cold in the pop top as it’s tricky to regulate the heat up there. We camp in all weathers though, if you kept it to warm summer days I think the pop top would be just fine.

I know some 4 person families that successfully camp in the vans with pop tops, it’s just not for us.

Cheers.

Ahh interesting thanks, what approach have you settled with when sleeping in it alone?

Weve also considered keeping just two rear spinning seats and having some kind of bed that's folds out and over from a back shelf, but can't seem to find anything that looks especially well made.

Cheers

We took the 3 seater bench and left the 2 rear single swivel seats in (there’s only 3 of us).

I built 2 pods out of extruded aluminium which are bolted down to the OEM seat rails. They can be removed if required. When I sleep in the van on my own I use one side my swivelling one of the seats round, use an extension piece to bridge the gap and then use self inflating mattress. It’s very comfortable as I can access the fridge whilst inside the van and the centre isle is clear so I can move around more easily.

Having the centre isle clear with the two pods also means I can fit full size building materials in the van without removing anything.

It is possible to sleep 2 people this way (singles on each side) but we’ve not done that as yet.

😮 Nice! Really like how you've maintained the front 4 seats and incorporated them into the bed. The spinning passenger table setup too.

The pods look really well built too 👍🏻

May start a Caravelle bed build post... Would be super interesting to see what everyone has done.

yeah I’d be interested to see how others have solved the sleeping situation too. Mine works well for me and that’s the thing, we all have different needs I guess.
