Caravelle electric sliding door - rusty sill

Hi. I have briefly mentioned this in my other post (buying advice for T6 150 please), but thought I'd put it here separately as this one is quite specific to the electric sliding doors on a T6 Caravelle.

I've searched other posts, but seem to find issues where the roller channel gets rusty, but that's not the issue here!

The issue here is with the top of the sill on the sliding door, the exposed paint work on the side just behind the drivers seat (see pic). Sorry I don't have an actual pic of the small rusty it self!

But it's not too bad, but just under 2 inches of a scrape (where I guess the door catches as it latches shut), but that scrape has a small bit of rust ontop. Both doors have the same issue.

Does anyone anyone else have the same problem? And any quick fixes?

Thanks
Nath

I had a twin sliding electric 2017 T6 and I don’t remember seeing any rust, and I used to clean the van top to bottom most weeks so would have noticed rust.

Mine had evidence of rust there, but it turned out to be only fallout which presumably contaminated the paint then the conversion was done. Carefully cleaned off with no problems.

Thanks Kev/Sasquatch. I guess the door is just catching. Maybe some of that clear protective tape would be the answer on this case.

Might be worth checking the bearings in the roller on the bottom runner. If they are worn then the runner may be scraping the sill.
Mine was rubbing prior to replacing the runner (after the bearing eventually collapsed).

Check everything/all of them, if the upper runner is failing or dropping im thinking it will allow more weight to transfer down through the door to the bottom runner ?

Hi Nathan, I’ve looked at a 2018 T6 Caravelle today (near Blackbush) which had the same on both sides. Doesn’t look like the door is hitting it now but definitely has been maybe when the runners failed.

Thanks for the reply MissedApex! You are most likely right, it was either rubbing, or had been running. But would have needed sorting to stop any rust spreading.

In the end I didn't go with the Caravelle in question, just too many questions on it for the big price tag being asked. So I went for twin sliding combi instead.

Thanks Nath, I bought the ‘velle I was looking at and picked it up yesterday. The dealer has sorted the surface rust and repainted both sides locally.

I wonder if it was the same vehicle we were looking at, the 2018 Exec at Vanlux?
