Camper layout

Hi all,
I’m at the point with my conversion now where I’m looking at getting furniture in the back of the van. Although I’m capable of building my own I kind of like the idea of getting CNC cut furniture that is tailored for the van… I’m pretty active, I like running, hiking etc so I’d like a fair bit of storage in the back. I like the side kitchen, it’s clearly the most effective layout, but am not sure about getting a rib bed and am thinking about opting for an L shape or a bench, any experience/ thoughts on this ?

I’ve got a simple Bench that folds to a full size double with loads of storage underneath.
I just cook outside, for coffee, quick breakfasts plus use cadac for bigger stuff. when there’s two of us I stick the bikes on the rack, but this lets me put one bike in the back when the bed is in bench position/on my own.
Nothing fancy, just good thickness ply with good fixings.
I use euro boxes for storage.
Think I’d go for a pull out kitchen or smaller pod style if I really wanted to cook/brew up inside the van.
Sounds daft, but when the vans empty, just have a sit in and work out what you really want and more importantly what you need, then have a measure up.
Enjoy the process 👍

Having had my van for a couple of years considering an upgrade, changing the layout for exaclty what I need. Initially I had the typical layout with a 130cm bed and slimline units, so follwing this to get a few ideas for the next interior build. Will probabaly check the link above "for inspiration".

I have a VW California sliding bed seat / rail arrangement, I can’t imagine a better set up that includes two rear legal passenger seats / double bed and a flat storage platform when a cover is laid on top of the bed.
With the Cali’ seat fully forward there is 1.5m floor space between the seat and tailgate.

As you’re considering an L or U shape, I’m guessing rear belted seats aren’t necessary? If so that’s good as you have a bigger choice of layouts. We have an L shape layout, with the usual hob/sink kitchen area.
If you have single swivel seats, it makes the van quite roomy and everything storage wise is easily accessible from inside, ie, you don’t need to lift tailgate.
It’s also a lot cheaper, not having to buy a folding bed unit, also you can adapt any ply units as and when.
‘The ply guys’ make some nice set ups, I went with Van Furniture’ which is a bit Rough round the Edges in quality and their service
One thing to watch, is the height of the seat/cushions for sitting ie the head space

Yes we brought the VF Hex ply swb U shape layout with kitchen unit and the pull out draw beside the sliding door., we didn’t buy the cushions as I had planned to build a storage unit on top of the rear drivers side base unit and extend the worktop with extra draw etc
You should be able to see the bits I added to make a L shape,
Only thing I wish was different was the up and over section that you lift to make the bed, it would be better if it was the pull out from the side slider type
