Best way to fix scuffs on those loverly shiny plastic bumpers?

I've had my first scuff on the front shiny black plastic bumper

I know I'm not the first or the last but whats the best way to smarten them up?
I feel that rubbing them with a bit of emery is going to make it look worse,
will they polish out?
Any ideas or tips gratefully received.

I'm going to have a lot of heartache over the back step/bumper, as this is a working van and ramps are going to make a right mess of the fabulous looking bumper.

I didn't realise you could use that on the VW bumpers.
I must admit I thought it was a wind up ... but I've just googled it and it does exist.

I think this would be suitable for the back bumper before I start throwing things up the ramps.

I was also going to ask about some protection for that bit just in front of the rear wheel arches ... they always pick up a ding against someone's gate psot.
Same thing I guess?

Well it would prevent abrasion damage but won't prevent dents.
