Not seen a direct answer in similar posts so will ask the question
I have a 2018 VW T6 LWB T32 Kombi ( converted bed solar EHU leisure battery night Heater curtains, lined out LED’s etc conversation done by Exploria from new
Never used in a commercial capacity it’s a family car but obviously classed on the log book as a commercial vehicle.
I have looked on the breakdown policy and it’s under 3.5 tonne it’s clearly a camper but the wording on the policy is it needs to be registered as private vehicle . Where with your insurance company or DVLA
Is this strictly enforced ? until last year I was covered by the VW warranty policy but after 5 years of age I need my own cover
I don’t want to be unnecessarily purchasing another policy if my existing premier plus breakdown policy covers it
I think I know the answer but wanted to see if anybody has similar experience

Private vehicle, as in privately owned, not a company vehicle?
Yep, that would be my interpretation - nothing to do with classification and everything to do with ownership. As ever, though, it's always safer to ask the provider.

The van is a commercial vehicle according to the log book DVLA as you cant get them converted over to motorhome classification as easily as previously . it's just a van with windows , is the best you will get but will still be classed as a commercial vehicle .

Barclays uses the RAC so gives really good cover , last thing I want is the family holidays , 2 kids wife dogs and luggage etc stuck in the South of `France and someone saying sorry you arent covered as its classed as a commercial vehicle against the DVLA . I just want to be 100% certain I am covered

As above, I believe their criteria relates to ownership (by an individual as opposed to by a company), not anything to do with how the vehicle is described/classified on the V5C, but no-one on this forum can give you 100% certainty - you'll only get that by speaking to the provider.

Ask the RAC?
