Banded Steels As Winter Wheels?

After just 4 days of having my beautiful Zito’s on I’m thinking I need winter wheels!

To my absolute ******* horror I noticed a chip in the rim while cleaning the van yesterday! I really should have known better; I live in darkest rural zummerzet, drive a lot of miles on dirty country roads, the rear rim is a little exposed because the tyre has a slight stretch and it is probably the worst time of year to run new alloys!

So, to save these wheels being destroyed over the next few months, do I go for some banded steels, as cheap as I can find, to protect my lovely Zito‘s?

Don’t think the words banded and cheap go in the same sentence.....unless when you say cheap you mean about £600-£800
If you want cheap, get the 18” amarok steels and some spacers. That will keep the tyre costs down too, I’m running Minerva winters and they are great for about £250 a full set.

Thanks, I like this idea, I'll look into it.

I bought some seconds from JBW, some 20mm spacers and a set of used winter tyres for winter - total cost £380.
That’ll probably still be cheaper than the banded steels alone!

I’m looking at doing this.. what spacers did you get??
Do they come with wheel studs??
And how bad is the paint??
Thanks

I know where there's a new set of banded 17s in Chrome for £525.
A cracking wheel that looks cool and can be run for a winter and then sold in the spring for around the same price.

The paint isn’t bad, at all.
One wheel had a cut to the paint consistent with someone having accidentally caught it with a Stanley blade, and a few others had slight imperfections to the metal lip.

After reading the recommendations, I went with Watfields for spacers. They come with studs.

I think I know the ones you mean, but 17s would be too small on my van, unless I ran huge profile tyres. I don’t carry any weight and the arch gap would be too big even though my B14s are all the way down on the back.

Chances are that if I do this it’ll be some 18” silver Amarok 2nds with spacers.

What about a nice set of platinum (not OEM silver) 19 inch amarok alloys....easy to clean. ..that might be for sale at the right price

They come with used continental 245/40/19 tyres

Like the sound of those, but no thanks. It’ll be steels and spacers or a refurb of the Zito’s in the spring.

I've got the JBW 18in steels seconds as well with winter tyres. Cost me £500 all in. There fine for winter and easy to clean.

Is yours a tailgate, and if so, where did you get the mud flaps for the rear
Yes mate, tailgate.

I bought them off eBay following a recommendation on the forum:
F+R Mud Flap Splash Guard Fender Mudguard For 2016-2018 VW Caravelle T6 Multivan 710731537583 | eBay

Well, they arrived 9 days later.
The instructions are in German and refer to a BMW E38 (7 series)... but they fit fine, using the existing wheelarch plastic cover mounts.

I was going to upload some photos but they’re identical to @drays so here’s his post

I was going to put them up for sale on here for £30
