Attaching roof rails

I've got the roof rails......now all I need are some words of wisdom! I've bought some sikaflex 221 and I was thinking I'd silicon the black plastic "inserts" into the roof channels before I sit the roof rails on them in oder to keep the water from leaking in through the bolt holes.........or should I just put some silicon on the bolt and into the bolt holes?
Any advice would be appreciated?

Yes, that's what I did. You can see by the size of the holes just how water would get into the interior. A small rubber washer would have been helpful I think.

Mine have some rubber washers. Did you put the "feet" flat side up or down in the channel?
