Good morning, brand new to camper vans and this forum, so I apologise if this is not in the correct category or chat!

Just in the final process of buying our first van, a 21 plate t6.1 in grey, which according to the previous owner was converted professionally by Aurora camper conversions who were based in the Nottingham area.

The van looks extremely well converted and it does very much appear to have been professionally done, and quite clearly the previous owner spent a lot of money converting it. However I am just wondering if anyone else on here has any experience with the company as I can’t seem to find much online due to them no longer operating.

Any advice would be much appreciated, so thank you in advance!

Looking forward to getting the van and getting out there and learning how it all works!

Never heard of them myself, but the magic piano brings up that theyre neither NCC or IVA approved (not necessarily a bad thing - those are expensive accreditations to acquire and many may not bother for that reason), but 5 star rating based upon 11 Google reviews, which seems very positive.

Sasquatch,
Thank you for the reply.

It all appears to be fitted very well and has everything that we have been wanting or looking for and the rest of van itself is immaculate so I’m not too concerned but was just curious as to if anyone else had any vans converted by them!

Thank you again.

Always worth taking a look under the shiny bits to assess the quality of a conversion, especially gas and electric kit. Also make sure you give the poptop a thorough examination.
^^^^^^this , everyone, especially inexperienced first timers (no disrespect intended) get carried away in the moment and are seduced by the bling. All well and good until you're on a soggy campsite with no battery power for the heating and you don't know where the leisure battery actually is, or how it's charged, or what it feeds or if you actually have one. Shove the front seats back as far as they will go and get some photos of the cavities underneath. Get photo of the EHU inlet plug and consumer unit. Get photos and locations of:- mains charger, DC-DC charger, Solar, heater, gas locker etc. Post the photos here, and we'll tell you what we think. Forecourt photos are pretty meaningless tbh, even a dog looks nice when it's shampooed and polished.

It think DXX may be correct- Status 1 are perhaps the manufacturer, and Aurorra the name of the range of their conversions? A bit like Venture Caravans and Redline campers.

Yes, I’m leaning towards this being the case and the place I’m buying the camper from has just got their wires crossed when told it’s an ‘Aurora’ conversion. Iv asked for all the conversion paperwork/invoices etc to double check before going ahead with the purchase, as I fully assume the conversion company would provide some paperwork confirming what has been done to the van?

The problem I think I have is the VW is for sale at a garage more geared up to selling high end cars and pick up trucks, and don’t appear themselves to be very knowledgeable when it comes to campers.

Could be one they've taken in px

I’ve seen plenty of car sales businesses doing campervans and high end bikes. Obviously the bigger the price the higher the profit.
Personally I wouldn’t pay to much attention to any salesman, do your research and pull it to pieces. Don’t feel time pressured.
When you’ve decided you want it get a hose on it and make sure it doesn’t leak like a sieve.

Status 1 still trading by the looks of it but they seem to be specialising in high end supercars now.
Still have a few vans on their website but nowhere near what they used to have.
I can remember 5 or 6 years ago they had I'd say around 20 or so vans for sale, all were blinged right up, lowered, body kits, 20" wheels etc etc and all on the expensive side.

Has a lot of goodies. Looks nice too. For me, as others have said, poking and pulling bits and looking at the bits you never normally will - that’s when you find out what’s what.

Salespeople never get to grips with the ‘blurb’ though do they?
The ad says it has 20” wheels, then 17” wheels and then even lists 16” Claytons, all in the same ad. The ad also says it’s an Aurora pop top - maybe that’s the source of confusion- they saw a sticker and went with that. Hence best to poke around like there’s no tomorrow.

That van certainly looks 'blingy' enough to be a Status 1 camper, but I seem to remember that they stick a small plaque somewhere on the outside of the van to advertise it as one of their conversions. Can't see any plaque anywhere in the pics, but perhaps the previous owner wasn't particularly ostentatious and removed it (?)

It does look a good spec van, very pretty, but keep a few pounds spare to change out the AGM leisure battery for Lithium, put a solar panel on the lid and make sure the starter battery is kept trickle charged by the leisure battery somehow, many quality converters ignore looking after the starter battery, leading to the van not starting in the morning.

All that bling and it's still only a T28, just sayin'
Depends how heavy the conversion is and how the new owner is going to use it.

My T28 weighs 2.26t with full tanks of fuel, water and gas. We travel light so it doesn’t worry me.
Especially as plating up from a T28 to a T30 seems to be just a paper shuffling exercise (as far as I’ve heard).
