Anyone Driven To Morocco?

After this year's phenomenally successful France,Spain and Portugal surfing trip I have booked the ferry for next year with the intention of missing out France and replacing it with Morocco.

Anyone ever driven there?

I'm planning on Essaouira and Taghazout, any advice?
That would be an easy drive down the main coast road, but why not take a drive down the interior then out to coast and back up?

How long have you got? it will take 6 days to get to Morocco and back. we normally go Portsmouth to Santander/Bilbao, then 2 day down through spain (via Seville with a stop over in the campsite at Caceres) to Tarifa, Then cross from Algeciras to the new port of Tanger Med (Old Tanger is a bit too mad and Ceuta is a no go for the uninitiated) . Buy your ferry tickets from Carlos who has an office behind the hypermarket in Algeciras(details below).

If you have a few more days you could do a route like this;

This would give you a taste of the High Atlas. But if you can spend 2 weeks there go right over to the desert dunes.

Thanks very much @Loz that is really great information:thumbsup:

The ferry is all booked Portsmouth-Santander:thumbsup:

I have 8 weeks next year so plenty of time and will take the scenic route, you have talked me into it:thumbsup: It will make a nice change as I will be following the coast/waves from Santander to Tarifa where I am going to surfski school

Wow you guys are very brave! Fair play to have the balls to take on such a trip. I'd be a nervous wreck!!!

You could go further afield.. This was the last trip we did in the Touareg, 95% would be doable in the Cali..

I must put some of the older ones up..

Why?

I did 2,500 miles through Europe in a month in September and it was an absolute pleasure:thumbsup:
So did I! We probably crossed :D
3500 trip in 2015 and 5000 trip the year before. My (probably false) impression is that Europe seems a lot easier and safer than North Africa though. Having said that, I don't really like the heat so my longest jaunts tend to go North rather than South.

Europe yes and will be doing that over the next few years. Morocco on the other hand is a completely different ball game.

I’ve done it 4 times
Loz which is the campsite you use in Casares please ?....... as I go every year but I drive from St Malo first stop is then at Zarautz just past San Sebastián, then I go down to Seville before moving on but would love to know the campsite details in Casares please.

I’m off with the other snowbirds on the first week of Dec then not back up till the very end of March
