Another ERG question

Hi all
I am going to apologise before writing this as I know these answers have already been answered on here but I'm going to blame social media for my increasingly reducing attention span. So I have a 2019 T6, 102 bhp and a CXGB engine with 164km (101 miles) on it. No issues i know of apart from 2 glow plugs i replaced last year and a high oil warning 2 services before.

The more I read here the more this ERG issue scares me. I will now admit to knowing nothing about engines.
My Questions are.
1. If I have no known issues should I be going to my local garage and giving him my hard earned cash for an ERG change?
2. If not what do I need to look out for to tell me I need it done?

Many thanks
Dave

If your engine is in good fettle and running well then my advice would be to let it warm up thoroughly before opening the taps (drive off straight away, just go easy until things are up to temp), keep it well serviced, and otherwise leave it well alone.

Youll likely start getting fault codes thrown up before it starts misbehaving in a way that you'd notice.

Thanks mate greatly appreciated, as I said not great with engines. I've a heafty loan on the van so need it to last as long as I can, if I thought it needs it be changed to save me future heartbreak I would consider it. Definitely couldn't afford a new engine

You needn't worry.

Your engine isn't one of the versions that can be badly damaged by the EGR, so no fear there.

The EGR on yours can clog up or fail, but typically youll get a bit of warning if it ever needs replacement. Just carry on as you are and enjoy the drive.

Mine gave me an EML but did not notice much difference in driving. Local indi reset it and told me to do some longer runs - eventually came back so got replaced - about £680 all in. If no warning light just forget and enjoy the van.

Short journeys are not good for it - so you have an excuse to travel further and enjoy 😉

Bigger issues than just the EGR if you are driving short journeys without the engine (oil) getting up to full operating temperature.
If you don’t do long journeys get a petrol, electric or walk, don’t go Euro 5 or 6 diesel.

Cheers guys if nothing else should calm the nerves a bit. So nothing to fear but fear itself. Ill make sure to do a few long runs, pop a bit of fuel additive in, service regularly and no need to do anything about the ERG unless I get a warning light. Thanks again.

No worries at all. If we've set your mind at rest then its a job well done
