All the dash buttons

My T6.1 T32 LWB 4Motion is now 18 months old. I missed the boat on ordering one new but after considerable patience I found one with delivery miles and the essential spec I wanted.

It's on a 5 year PCP through my business, with the plan being that I'll pay the balloon and convert it to a camper when that's up. In the meantime, I'm doing bits as the business can afford it, in preparation. Last year I soundproofed it and fitted carpets to the cab. On the list next are speaker upgrades, a diesel heater, engine remap and air suspension.

While considering the air suspension, I thought about using some of the button blanks for the raising/lowering buttons. That sent me on a search for what the various button blanks could be for. Amazingly, I can't find that information anywhere... so I'm asking!

I've attached photo's of my dash. What am I missing?

I know the buttons on the right could be for a locking diff and hill descent. That was an option I wanted and am going to investigate prices for retrofitting.

Next to the steering wheel are the buttons most commonly asked about on these forums - the double blank & mysterious 'mode' button.

Wondering what buttons I could potentially use for the suspension and also whether there's anything else worth retrofitting.

Hill descent control is a diyable retrofit, several of the forum folk have done it. The T6.1 coding is different to the T6, @mmi and the forum collective cracked it for me.

Diff lock is a diff-erent story.

Don’t think you can remap a T6.1 yet.
Certainly the ones with the Bosch ecu can’t
I have heard that. I'm going to speak to some people anyway as it makes no sense to me. It's not like the engine is any different between the various HP options and it would be nice to be able to go up a hill without causing a que of traffic.

Its not a case of the engines sharing sharing the same architecture so they must therefore all be mappable to eachcothers spec.

The Bosch ECU cant be mapped because no one has cracked the anti-tamper security coding. There is, allegedly, a place in France that can do it but it involves sending them the ECU and they actually chip it the old fashioned way by soldering in new processors.

The Delphi ECU can be done, but it would seem not so many 6.1s are thus equipped.

My 110 is no ball of lightning, but even on inclines im not getting in anyone's way. Its become noticeably livelier this year as the mileage climbs closer to 10k.

Yes, I've done a bit more reading since and come across that French one. I still don't understand why it can't be done. I also can't find any info on an ECU swap with the Bosch 205. Is there any reason that wouldn't work?

I have a 150 but it's currently carrying 3.2 tonnes daily. I regularly start at the bottom of a hill doing 55 and am down to 3rd gear and 30mph by the time I get to the top.

In very simple terms its protected by an anti tamper code. Bosch won't release the details, and no one else has cracked it yet.

Its much the same reason you couldn't open your banks safe. You don't know the combination, and the safe manufacturer sure as hell isnt going to tell you.

Mines a SWB 4mo manual. Diff lock to the far right (that's not a political comment) above light switch, and electric sliders (3 buttons) buttons on the far left next to the hazard light button.

Also Bosch ECU and would love a remap.

Thanks, I have read that thread. Although a general question was asked it quickly moved to the familiar discussion concerning the window heater/BT/wifi/mode cluster.
No problem. I had meant to add "if you haven't already seen this" to my reply, given that it was an easy search.
What exactly do you want to know? The first pic in that thread shows what buttons are in the left panel and the discussion talks about the right hand panel.
Are you hoping for custom buttons or a list of oem options that you could potentially chose from for the air ride?

I wasn't clear about this but part of me was hoping this would be a useful resource for others, so let's list all the buttons:

n/s panel, left to right, top to bottom:

Parking sensors
?

?

Hazad warning

Centre panel, left to right:
left heated seat
Air-Con
Rear window heater
air re-circ
?
right heated seat

Panel n/s of steering wheel, left to right, top to bottoml:
BT/Wifi*
Front heated window*
?**
Mode**
(button pairs)

o/s panel, left to right, top to bottom:
Traction control
hill descent assist

Thanks. Do you know if anyone has tried an ECU swap?

I dont know. I suspect not as various modules will be coded to the ECU. Like as not you may end up needimg to transplant the electrics (and keys) wholesale from one vehicle to another, or go to a dealer and transplant yourself from one van to another.

There might be a solution - tuning boxes. I dont mean the normal tat that plugs in and and fools the ECU with false fuel flow data. I mean the sophisticated ones that plug into multiple sensors and act more or less as piggyback ECUs. I dont know what may or may not be out there for the Transporter, and it you do find one its liable to be expensive and insurers dont like them, but it might be an option,

Getting there. Filled in all but three blanks, can anyone help with these? (And why isn't there an edit function on the forum? I could add this to the original post to make it easy to find).

For my purposes, the electric door buttons (which I've never really understood) seem to be prime candidates to replace with air suspension buttons. And best yet, nothing else I want to retrofit yet (although side assist would be nice...)

These were taken off my 6.1 Caravelle. Left ones are park assist and then electric sliding doors on bottom row.

Central ones are different heater configuration.

Heated windscreen ones and right hand side of steering wheel are the same as yours with blanks in the same places.
