Not poo pooing the Ghost system that it appears a good many forum members are using but as I have an humble Trendline spec. I don't have the Qwerty steering wheel required to perform the start up tap dance input so suggestions sought for a reasonable but probably more conventional alarm to slow down the thieving low life out there, cheers all.

FYI. You don't need a MFSW for a ghost !

You can use peddles, dash buttons as well as MFSW. So don't let that put you off...

As @Fish above . . . . Clifford alarm or Autowatch alarm, or metasystems gets my vote.

But defo look at the ghost..... its awesome.

BTW the ghost is an immobiliser only.... not an alarm.... you need an alarm too.

I've got the MetaSystems factory alarm upgrade.....

Plus a Clifford alarm as a secondary alarm for the rear van area.

Cheers gents, more questions as ever and what would be a typical setup for a campervan as the list of add on options can nearly double the price of the basic alarm installed but are some valid enough to be included when ideally I want something that will make some scrote think twice about lifting the motor?

Not just penny pinching you understand... ok then, penny pinching.:(

Also look out for the meta-systems CAN bus system.

It's a CAN bus alarm upgrade.

It work with all the OEM kit and picks up all the various sensors via the CAN system including the OEM remotes, doors. Bonet, windows... etc.

Also gives you notifications if you leave a door or window open...... which is very handy.

Now days you get two types of alarms....

CAN bus alarms that pick up all the various doors and sensors via CAN.

And Analog Alarms which use separate dedicated hardwired sensors.

The MetaSystem is the forma and the Clifford is the later. I run both myself.

The Ghost is a separate Immobiliser that works independent of the above alarm solutions.

FYI a tracker is a separate system again.... we use the MetaSat monitored tracker, which has proved very effective so far.

Would be interested to hear from anyone that's had this done. My local installer got on the phone to the Ghost manufacturer. They said it could indeed be done without a MFSW. But........the button required instead was the traction control switch. And guess what post dieselgate cost cutting did to the existence of that button, on my chariot of choice.

When you go to your installer, they need to be approved filters and as such will have a Autowatch trade login to the Ghost website.

They need to program the firmware in the ghost from there (for the specific vehicle) and can also download all the fitting diagrams, locations, wires and for you........ ALL the buttons and peddles that can be used.

Ghost-II

WHAAAAAAAAT!

Ghost Immobiliser

when did that happen !

Looks like can handle 2x bluetooth phones.... but anything else different?

Have a look at Pandora Alarm Systems. Clever kit bit but a bit pricey tbh. On the upside you get and actual immobiliser rather than a CAN Blocking immobilser (no brands mentioned) and have the option to add on hidden wireless immobiliser(s).

I'm personally rather partial to the idea protecting my bus with one of these...

Could be fun deploying it, pulling away at the traffic lights too.
