Alarm contacts

Hi all,
On my old van (not VW) I managed to connect a loop of wire off the rear door contact to pass through a trailer when hitched up. Please see my rough diagram. so if someone decided they deserved my trailer more than me, they would break the loop and set the van alarm off.

As my 2016 T6 doesn’t appear to have door pins/switches, does anyone know if this is possible ??

thanks

JT

Unfortunately not, I have an aftermarket bar with the full wiring kit. But I also pass the loop through the chassis of my car should someone take that off the trailer. Sorry forgot to mention that

Vehicle specific wiring kit, coded to the van? Or just a bypass relay.

In that case the alarm should go off when the trailer is disconnected. Has the module been coded? Have you got reverse sensors? Do they turn off when a trailer is connected?

Strange, if my van is locked and I take out the socket the alarm goes off. I think it's all done by the contact switch in the 13pin socket. If you have a 7pin adaptor in the socket then it won't work

I think it does it by measuring a circuit between pins X and Y so hopefully still works on 7 pin
Be easy for you to test out and confirm

OEM trailer detection/alarm "priming" requires that in the trailer (minimum) two of the following circuits are present (having regular bulbs):
- Left parking light
- Right parking light
- Left indicator
- Right indicator
However, if experimenting it's worth noting the thresholds (resistance in the circuits) are different for just trailer detection and alarm "priming"... the regular bulbs are a must.

EDIT: alarm is active not before approx. 15 sec after locking the van.

Arming spare wheel with similar idea was sketched here ---> Someones Stolen My Spare Wheel.

I finally had chance to test the theory today, but sadly unplugging the trailer electrics didn’t not set off the alarm

Just got curious about the issue - again. Any chance to get a full scan report of your van (Carista, OBDeleven, VCDS)?

I have VCDS, but as a complete novice and without looking, I would need some guidance on how to obtain a scan

Excellent!

It would go along these lines:

Plug in VCDS dongle.
Start VCDS on computer.
IGNition ON

On VCDS click Auto-Scan

Click Start (Auto-detect) ... it takes a few minutes to scan all the modules

When finished, under Results click Save - it will create a Log-WV.xxxx.TXT file in directory C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs
Also Copy can be used to copy and paste e.g. into Notepad

Just attach the file in your post.
