Additional rattle on startup

Hello,

I have a 2019 T6.1, 2.0 TDI with 30k on the clock.

I've noticed on startup it has another rattle/tapping sound in additional to the normal diesel clatter. It's quite clear about halfway through when the camera is moved under the front bumper.

What is it and is it normal?

If you’ve had a good root around under the van and there’s nothing obviously loose or vibrating then it’s either the DMF of the aux’ belt tensioner bouncing IMO. You can see the tensioner by looking down through the engine compartment on the drivers side (UK). It maybe bouncing because the alternator clutch pulley is failing.
If it is the tensioner be very careful running the engine (I wouldn’t run it) as a damaged aux belt can take out the timing belt - massive cost to repair.

This engine is mapped according to another thread you have open. There are two different DMFs fitted on a T6, they have different peak torque specifications.
If the engine is fitted with a DMF that isn’t rated for the higher torque it could lead to premature failure.
Not sure about a 6.1.

Thanks for this. It's only been mapped for a few thousand miles and not driven hard so hopefully no damage done.

Here's another video, this time after 30 minutes of driving and looking around the bay. I don't think I can hear it when it's warm?

No that particular noise has gone which is what others have reported with DMF failure. There are a few videos with failed DMFs on the Forum, have a search and see what you think.

Here’s an example, was renewed 30K previous.

That sounds annoyingly similar...
Push for warranty, DMF should do 200K according to my past experience, never on a T6 but I think Owners are becoming with slightly complacent about expensive failures. You will definitely need to remove the map in that case!

I'll certainly ask the question, but I'm sure they'll look at the ECU flash counter and say "the remap did it".
