Ad Blue - final help please

So... its in the VW Centre and they have identified that the ECM software needs updating, also the rear EGR pipe has a split in it, this seems to be a common fault at 70,000 miles which is exactly right for mine. They suggest replacing the EGR pipe, conduct software update and hope that sorts the problem.

Question - they want £750 to conduct this, I'm wondering if it is easy to replace the EGR pipe myself and just pay for the software update - anyone know how easy the EGR is to replace, I looked on youtube and seems a bit fiddly but not a massive job?

Those rear pipes usually fail a lot earlier than 70000 miles and the new one is a different design- they really should change it under a goodwill agreement as it’s a known fault hence the design change. Mine was done under an extended warranty. I’m also amazed but not surprised VW charge for software updates- these are usually to fix issues which shouldn’t exist in the first place. At 70000 miles you’re probably going to need a new EGR unit soon,1k at a good independent. I’d get the software update then spend the extra getting a new EGR unit but not at a VW dealer. I’d also look for some kind of guarantee that the software update fixes the initial adblue issue
