AC Controller T6.1

Hello all you techies out there. If I change the AC controller from the original one to the one I’ve bought to try and retro fit the heated seats, will the standard buttons (AC & recirc) work without any coding, does anyone know??

No, you will have to do the flap motor adaptions to get it to work properly. You may also get a fault code for heated rear window,

I have just retrofitted climatronic to a T6.1, so I am familiar with it.

Hi Kev, it’s not climatronic it’s just the manual AC so do these flap motors need doing? I’m sure the rear window can be cleared if I get a fault code maybe ??

Yes, they still have (less) motors

Don’t forget that unit is actually a control module and sits on the canbus system so depending what age/model/spec vehicle it was taken from some coding changes may need to be made
I would imagine most of the basic functions of that controller will be hard set into it with the firmware so I would expect some of the stuff to work but VCDS will be required to check/change coding, check errors and perform basic settings

Thanks Pauly, guess I need to get it fitted and get someone with VCDS to have a look and see if it will work? The controller is from a 2022 highline model mines 2021 highline.

Be warned, this is not a simple job.

It is almost two years since I did this, so I'm sure I have forgotten some of the details:

1. Dash Out
2. Replace the air distribution part of the heater box for the climatronic version. The Evaporator and heater matrix do not need to be changed so the coolant and refrigerant circuits do not need to be opened. I bought this new from VW
3. Fit the additional flap actuator motors and rods. These are expensive from VW, I bought used. There are different versions for different flaps and are not interchangeable. You need to be proficient at etka to figure out which motor goes where.
4. Fit additional vent temperature sensors
5. Fit Climatronic wiring loom
6. You might have to change the motor power feed from ignition to permanent live. I cant remember if this is needed on the T6.1. It definitely was when I did this retrofit on the wife's mk6 Golf.
7. Fit Climatronic module and code. The correct T6.1 climatronic module is super rare, as climatronic is not optionable on panel vans, only on people carriers and campers. I had to buy this new and was very expensive. Coding in itself was tricky, it was lots of trial and error to get everything to work correctly.

I was definitely over a grand in parts, probably closer to two.

Did the mechanical work in a day, but had help from a very competent friend (Stan-the-man).

Coding took a few days of trial and error, researching and testing.
