A few seat changing questions

Hello,

I’m going to get my single passenger seat changed put for a double bank. Since I live in Switzerland it has to be checked by the MOT equivalent here - so i’ll be getting it done by a garage.

I do have a few questions though, that I couldn’t find already answered.

I know that a factory single has a different air bag in the dash, so this also needs to be changed. However, if the bench that I buy has an airbag in it how would that affect this? (for info, my current single does not have a airbag in the chair).

If I do need to change the airbag in the dash also, does anyone recommend anywhere to buy one? (I’ve been quoted over 1,200 chf here in Switzerland just for the airbag!)

I think more research is required. I doubt the airbag is different depending on double or single seat fitted. VW seems to have kept as much the same as possible with the various T6 configurations.

As far as I know, the change is nothing more than four bolts. Do it yourself in 20 minutes. I doubt any inspector would even pick up on the change!

The air bag is 100% different for double or single passenger seat. Please don't post this if not sure.

An option would be to try to find someone who is looking to go from a double seat to a captains seat and do a deal that includes seats and airbags. Your single seat is worth far more money that a passenger double.

I dn't know about the regulations in Switzerland, but if the single captains seat you have does not have an airbag VW wont have fitted the wiring. An option would be to buy a bench seat without airbag,of if it has one, just leave it unconnected.

they are different. the inspector will notice, the car is registered as a two seater, it will need to be reregistered as a three seater. That’s the two things i’m 100% sure of

Thanks, i’ve found a second hand bench seat, perhaps they will also be willing to trade the airbag. The garage is also interested in taking the single seater and that would bring the cost down.
I’m just shocked on the cost of the airbag. Might try and source myself from elsewhere instead
