Hi, my T6 key fob case looks the worst for wear, and needs replacing, I have been looking at a few new genuine vw fobs to do a swap over of the chip, case, & blade, can someone tell me if it matters about the different part number mine being 5KO prefix, others fobs I have seen are identical but with a different first 3 prefix, Thanks in advance, Garry

Just done this myself.

Swappped my OEM innards and the key blade over into this case. I did have to file the key blade slightly as it was a tight fit. Took 5 minutes in total. The only donwside is there's no VW sticker on the case but I can live with that. Dunno if you can get these separate.

Thanks for info, That looks like a good n easy fix, I'm sure the fob cases are the same, and the ref part number is for the OEM chip detail, programming etc, Cheers

I've got a spare one of these. I'd converted my two button remote to this. Obviously the middle button does nothing but they look good.

Can post it out if you want it £10

Thanks for the offer, but I have just bought one of the ebay 2-button cases 'Howzat' used, if it's no good i've only lost a fiver, Cheers

Hi, the ebay replacement key case worked a treat, Unfortunately the local well known key cutting shop would not cut the new key blade, unless I bought one of their new key fobs, defeats the purpose really, all in they wanted £50, Definitely Not!! , so I found a local independent shop who cut the new blade for 20 notes, still felt a bit sore at that, but it works well, Thanks

Yes that's a really good point, my original key blade was bent, and had a visible split in the metal, and could not be reused, tired looking fob aside, I was really concerned that if the blade broke off in the ignition barrel then I would be totally stuffed, this was a cheap fix and it did the job great.

Did it work out OK? My key button rubber is starting to wear through so want to replace it.

PS - I see the seller via the above link is no longer active. Any other fob recommendations as lots on ebay?

I bought the 2 fob pack off ebay and installed my working key inards (the oem vw machined key section and the circuit board) in to one of them and it was fine. I had to get the second key machined from the ebay blank, a month or so back and had two new looking fobs all sorted but without the vw logo as hadn't got round to buyin them yet. About 3 weeks ago the one I changed out first started to fracture at the hinge part and then it broke - this was the VW key section that I installed in the ebay body so it was the VW metal section that broke in the plastic body and not the ebay one. I was still able to pinch the key shaft out of the lock okay and I could turn it in the barrel using the case, this got me home and I got the other recently machined key out and am using that now. I will probably go to timpson to get the recently broken one sorted in a VW body at expenseand will report if my second (cheap/ebay) key doesn't last.

well, when it's this cheap I guess you pays your money you takes your chances. The below seems to be the same case but you get a tool kit with it. so long as you have internal electronics and the key shaft is sound then maybe this will be okay. See youtube on how to dismantle old case and install into new case. It's a little fiddly

I just done this.....

Was a bit tricky, but worked out ok in the end.

The original key case gets damaged when opening as there is a locking pin.
