Reprogramming Spare Key

Hi guys,

I recently bought a T6 Caravelle and it came with 2 keys. One of these keys is the correct one, the dealer was unable to find the matching second key. Instead, they provided me with a key that I was told could be reprogrammed and a blade cut for it which would be cheaper than having to go to the main dealer and make a larger hole in my wallet for an OEM second key.

I've been to timpsons and they said they might be able to do the reprogramming, but that if the key was assigned to another car previously then this would not be possible without the other cars second key.

I also reached out to a mobile service near me in Nottingham and they've just said it's flat out not possible and that I should be going back to the dealer and asking them to find the second key.

I've seen some posts on here about having keys cut and programmed with mobile services so wondered if timpsons/mobile service guys are right or if I need to find a different service, or if worst case I'll be heading to VW.

Cheers!

To be totally honest, I wasn't too concerned about the second key. Probably stupid on my part. When he provided this other key and assured me I could reprogram it easily I just took the advice at face value.

If it seems like it really is considerably more effort than he sold it as then I will go back to him, but I'd like to know from people more knowledgable than myself first. He has, however, already had my money so may be less than inclined to help further.
