Young un"s first car.

Mrs Sasquatch's EcoSport 140 I could.

Cool, never seen one. All the fiesta eco boosts usually have the filler cap at the nearside of the engine. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled now.

That's the good thing with the Peugeot's, you can see the belt and also they are way way easier to replace the belts on compared to fords!

Thanks for all the replies, but what is the general consensus on a modern Renault?
We have just sold Mrs D’s 2016 Clio Dynamique Nav S 1.5 dci . Was comfortable with a good ride , good climate control , easy to live with plus 5 doors . Was cheap to Tax and Insure (young driver highly recommend Marmalade or Hastings Black box) . Reliability was good just consumables brakes , track rod ends , cv boot once etc , however it did break front springs and 1 rear spring separate occasions but months apart this was on a 90,000 mile car all cheap to repair though. Changed Cam belt at 82,000 iirc. Think it was just over 90k when sold.

I liked its looks as still looked modern compared to similar other small cars. Had a nice spacious feeling inside too.

Thread resurrection- what do the masses think of a 12 plate UP? Very low mileage, and fsh but at that age, should I be looking out for rust?

Great little cars, a bit tinny and ours suffered from terrible condensation issues for no apparent reason. But cool for youngsters and shouldn't present too many issues

Gearboxes are rattly in neutral - TADTS!

They can rust badly around the fuel filler as pre 2015 didnt have arch liners. There is no rhyme or reason - a 2012 car could be pristine and a 2014 car rotted out. Look for micro bubbles in the paint.

Sills can fill with water - known issue - drill / remove one of the bungs. Sloshing can be heard. Can seep into cabin causing wet carpets / condensation.

Tailgates leak usually via the high level brake light but can be the washer jet pipe split and occasionally poorly bonded glass - when you open the hatch all the water runs down the cable gaitor and into the back of the car making the rear footwell carpets wet (leading to condensation)

Finally, the bulkhead drains can block - vertical channels at each end exiting behind the front wheel arch liner. If overflowing can get in the cabin via the heater again wetting the carpets / underlay causing condensation.

So basically check fuel cap and under carpets!

Ours is dry but still gets bad condensation - there is something in the design!

Overall they are brilliant little cars - I love driving ours, I mean daughters ;-)

It should have had 1 cambelt before VW changed the guidelines.

Re tailgate - I just removed the 3 painted in bungs on the panel return and it now drains.

The car has done 19k, cambelt? I would have wanted it changed purely on age, but what are the chances it has?

I think that it's important that our children/grandchildren must be reassured that all hope is not lost. They needn't have to drive small, dull, 'sensible' cars for long. As my son has done, bide their time, save up, build up 4 years no claims, than add something utterly stupid to his fleet.

6.2 litre diesel V8 with a GM turbocharger. It basically turns diesel into noise as it only makes around 180 horsepower. However he's doing his bit for the environment. By him driving it sparingly, someone else isn't ragging it around all day, everyday, rolling coal out of every junction.

That’s awesome I gave my eldest daughter a Mitsubishi shogun sport for her first car as it was sooo much cheaper to insure than a smallhatchback. Converted the back into a camper so she could use it for her festival work.

These 'sensible' cars make our baby daughters car look pathetic! £230 insurance though through the Flux, until she passes her test of course!

Yes that’s not too bad, it’s when they first get their own insurance. Be prepared for that car to cost £1500 +. It may have changed but Eldest was getting quotes in the region of £2000 for a small car. The Mitsubishi still cost around £700 but it was way cheaper than anything else she looked at. And she still had to have parents as named drivers and a telemetric app whilst using the vehicle.

Fortunately, the nipper has more available funds than I do, and yes wifey and I are on her own policy. She already has a year of no claims, that will hopefully help a bit. Upsetting that 5 nights a week I can't have a glass or two because I have to fetch her from her Toby carvery job. I can resume alcoholic status when she passes her test... we won't be having any more kids...

lol. Yes unpaid chauffeurs is on the parental remit. Eldest did gain her freedom but the breakages and maintenance of her vehicle was always my responsibility. That truck ate alternators and batteries for a pastime. She did sell it and give the proceeds to offset what I spent on it (it didn’t) and then I gave her my old 2011 ford ranger as a replacement. Something something something little finger and wrapping springs to mind. Can’t wait for the other three to start driving????????
