Yet another T6.1 Suspension question!

Finally treated the van to 4 new tyres, gone down from 275/40R20'S to 265/40R20'S

Should be in a better place ready for lowering the van next...

Also now know the wheels are indeed 8.5J with an offset of ET35

Is that a pretty standard offset for a T6.1 or will it cause me any issues when lowering?

With that size wheel, offset and tyre size you’ll be fine lowering the van, unless you’re looking to go beyond moderate lowering of up to about 70mm or so.

That's great, yeah looking at 70mm for the front for sure but the rears may be a bit too close at 70mm especially with the weight of the van.
Still undecided what to actually go for yet.....

Has anyone fitted these at all yet? I'm considering it to see if i would be happy with a 50mm drop but concerned that theres no way of levelling the van out at all but also kind of intrigued if they will do for now sort of thing!

Have you not been to see Steve @CRS Performance yet? You are so close!
Great advice, not pushy, great choice of products, fantastic service.

Can get H&R 50mm springs for not much more.

May be no better or worse but a brand I've used in the past and been happy with.

No adjuster for the rear but could possibly add later if needed?

Fascinating thread, watching.

I've got the BMVS @BognorMotors setup, 60mm lowered, 4Mo, 265/40/20, 8.5j and 10j, no issues, rides well, rears do look a bit stretched, fronts look perfect to the untrained eye (mine).

In the back of my brain I'm considering switching to 8.5j rears as for me there's no real need for staggered setup though I get the point.

And then I'd like to try some 18s or 19s with more sidewall ...

If you think your van is a bit crashy on 20's with standard suspension then fitting 50mm springs is probably the worst combination of all. Your wheels, shocks and springs will all be working against each other rather than together. The standard shock can't handle the extra weight/unsprung mass of a 20" wheel and tyre and the piston in the shock will be operating in less than optimum part of the range. On top of that the standard shock cant control/dampen the shorter stiffer spring so all comfort and control goes out the window. A quality set of coilovers will be transformative especially if you need to adjust the height balance front to rear. You really can't expect excellent ride quality while not paying for it.

Even the quality of the tyre will have a big impact with that, people always moan about 20s being crap but run on budget tyres… the difference between having Accelera tyres and Goodyear Eagles was night and day on my van

Really? Well in general i have never run budget tyres but just gone for mid range stuff on my cars etc, but my camper had 'Triangle' branded tyres on from new and to be fair i didn't think they were that bad, hence me replacing them for Acellera's

Maybe the next set will be Hankook's, Goodyears or similar - but this year i have spent too much on the van so am trying to rein it in a bit!

Saying that, yeah i do want a nice 50-70mm drop, super comfortable ride and decent longevity - but my budget dont stretch to coilovers at the moment so i was thinking of trying some springs as an interim thing (i will do the work myself) and then at least when i do go to coilovers the ride will be amazing for me!

So any advice on just springs (for now) would be greatly received.

Thanks all!

My advice would be to spend the £ on good tyres and cut back elsewhere, they may save the van and you.

My camper converted van came with std suspension and cheap 20” Mileage King tyres. The ride was awful. First thing I did was change out the suspension, fitting quality coil-overs. That improved things considerably, however, as already said… you need quality tyres.

Swapped out the tyres from 275/40 R20 Mileage Kings to a brand new set of 245/45 R20 Goodyear Eagle Asymmetrical F1’s.

The change was like night and day. Tyres, brakes and suspension are all that saves you in an emergency situation. Do not scrimp on tyres.

Lots of choice in the 245 45s as well

245/45/20 are a better option than 275/40/20 but they still have a considerably higher rolling radius than standard 205/65/17 on which the gearing is based. You'll find it affects lower powered vans a little on hills etc. I think 255/40/20(T28/T30) or 265/40/20 (T32) are the sweet spot.

Probably contributes to destroying the notoriously weak 5 speed gearboxes and drive shaft splines as well.

I get what you are saying. I'm tempted myself, as I want it lower but not in a position to spend 1k plus on all new suspension.

Mine currently sits quite level even though full camper conversion. So I presume I have uprated rear springs. The risk is that the rear sits lower if new springs are fitted.

That's exactly where I am at this time, part of me thinks for a couple hundred quid and a few hours it might be worth a punt but I also don't want to ruin my daily drive either!

I think it's inevitable you will be doing it again but then properly if you fit just lowering springs, so to me its a waste of money and effort!

If your van is a camper , these springs will be a disaster , but on the bright side the life time warranty will be the most used feature ha ha
Please dont waste money on these . Best case scenario , buy them and just fit the front , that way the van will be level . it will ride harsh but the steering will be better
By the way it says T6 and T6.1 , it cant do both ??

It certainly looks like the supplier of these springs isnt a specialist .
