wing mirror - earth?

trying to replace a broken passenger side wing mirror, taken the old wing mirror apart and found a loose connection looks like its the earth from the wing mirror body to the heated part of the wing mirror... only there doesnt seem to be any connector only a brass ring that sits around the heated wing mirror cable see pictures.... should the earth wire slide under this please advise

any help of advice for this novice vw owner would be much appreciated

I can't find it now but I did find a picture of the loom - that wire is supposed to be attached to the crimp connector under the shrink sleeve.

I extended it and re-crimped an additional crimp over the top of the old one with this earth connected.

Everything works and it seems fine - daft design though.

The loose wire is supposed to be in that crimp connector you can see.
