Widest alloys?

Hi all,

I was looking for this info but cannot find it. I plan to change alloys for summer BUT my plan also covers some ride quality improvement by putting wider ones. This way it should be more stable on day-to-day drive across the city (too many bumps and holes to compensate here). I would keep 18" (19" max) for comfort still, while it has to be:

- wider as possible
- looks best as possible (closest to the car body edge)

Anyone knows what can be the wider alloy? 9J? 9,5? 10? (especially for front, I know that probably rear can be wider but will put spacer there to keep all 4 tyres same size).

Thanks!

(I also have -40mm H&R springs but this shouldn't change anything.)

Thx! 8,5J front is the max? or you didn't try 9J? do you have photo maybe? ET I will then ofc adjust but need to know what will be the widest without touching anything during turning the wheels...

All depends on the ET like said above. 100's of us here use 8.5's with 265's or less on the front to stop rubbing. I think if you went to 9's no tyre would fit that wouldn't rub.

Also, anything wider than a 8.5 with a 265 on the front tends to give numb steering feel and suffers from tramlining.

That's just what we're on it when I bought it.

Very occasional rub on the front on full lock on a slope.

Do wider tyres increase ride quality? I know wider tyres can improve cornering at speed, although how much that's really applicable to a van is open to debate I suppose. I also know that deeper sidewalls can improve ride comfort. But tyre width itself, not sure I've ever seen any analysis on that?

You can fit 10J on the front also without rubbing as long as it’s not lowered.
I’ve got 275’s all round.
Van is not lowered and has CRS konis and handles superb.

Good point. If you're not lowered then you can go wider. So many variables you need to consider.

I'm running 20 x 9.0J with a 245/45/20 103 tyre, lowered on a CRS H&R kit and it doesn't rub
