Where’s best to buy new?

I'm ready to upgrade my T5.1 to T6.
I've been offered a 10.5% discount with the dealer that supplied my current van with what I think is an excellent trade in price.
I've read other threads that people were getting better discount.
Who are they?!
I suspect that my trade in price would crash drastically if I got a better discount.

That sounds good from a dealer especially if you are getting a good trade in.
I think the bigger discounts were from the fleet merchants selling off the back of bigger contracts or brokers selling numbers on very low margins pushing the fulfilment onto the Dealer Network and VW work hard to stop them being sold too cheaply.

If the dealer willingly offered 10.5%, I wonder if there is anymore they could offer? I had already told them my local dealer offered 10%. Perhaps they just wanted to beat that.

To give you an idea, I got around 19% off my bus, but I leased 12 vans at the same time and made a commitment to take another 12 over the next 18 months.

11% off a factory order, first time with the dealer. Made it quite clear that I knew the system and told them what I had achieved on previous cars.

Dealers in the south west offer between 8 and 10%. Dealers in the midlands offered 10.5 to 11.5%. Huge variation in trade in price!
Thanks for input!

On a slight variation here, how are you finding the reliability regarding your fleet? And are similar issues (if any) cropping up?

In a nutshell, 12 Transporters plus mine have all been faultless so far over 6 months. The 4 Transit Customs have been much less reliable, they are about 18 months old now and all have been backwards and forwards to the local dealer (muppets) for lots of silly faults.

I've moved away from Ford now, the VW experience is far superior in every way.

When I was pushing West Yorkshire VW at Cleckheaton to try and get close to the price of the pre reg I finally bought they got to almost 20% with a factory order with options and a 4 month lead time.

Is that the Ford & VW Dealers who are neighbours?
Couple guys I see have Turkish built Transit Customs. The panel gaps are unbelievably wide, and the plastic painted bumpers resemble diy paintwork from a Halfords can. The quality is incredibly shoddy.

Ha, yes it is, that lot over the road have always been awful. I remember having a brand new Mk4 Escort that jumped out of 1st gear every time you pulled away in it, 'no fault found sir' was the usual response from them.

It's the myriad of little snags on the customs that mean a trip back to the dealers who then don't have courtesy vans even though we waited a few weeks for a van to become available.

Before I'd even spent a penny with VW Commercials (I did have a Touareg from a different dealer) Breeze VW lent me a 204 Kombi for 3 weeks, then jumped through hoops when my own van was delayed by a few days and gave me a California to use.
Cannot fault them as a dealership, so far..

I got off on a rocky start there, new salesman, first sale I reckon, soon ironed the issues out. But when all said and done, they’ve been pretty good overall.

Got oil service warning coming on after only 300 miles. Doesn’t bother me, but when I’ve a minute and drop on by and have a word. Hopefully, it’ll be ‘have a coffee sir, it’ll take just a few minutes....’

Hi all, I’m coming back to dub ownership after having everything from a 58 beetle to a 64 split screen with many others in between.
so I’m looking to buy a New Transporter 6.1 or very close to new. Where’s the best place to get a new deal?
thanks in advance.

Hi,

Have you used the VW commercial website to search for vans? Often pre-registered small mileage vans on there with big discounts. Expect to be able to negotiate 14-16% off a brand new RRP.

Some van centres have more stock and appear to apply the models of sell more vans at a discounted price as apposed to sell less vans at a higher price.

Some mentioned are VW Liverpool & Wrexham. Don't expect the same level of service from VW commercial as you would from retail cars. The customer service is usually shocking.
I managed to find a van 12mths old that had 16miles on the clock and was still covered in the factory wax at Wrexham VW.
Best of luck.

Thank you that’s very helpful.

I was getting prices from a VW dealer in Liverpool (Swansway) which were pretty good but I decided to order in the end from my local dealer near Heathrow.
