What tyres do you fellows recomend?

Yeah, I've had an exploratory nosey on BC. They do Hankook Kinergy 3S with a 104 rating and theyre on my shortlist as I've very positive experience of those on my XC90.

No urgency, I'll get through to then spring, but its nice to mull these things over well jn advance.
If you don’t want to run older tyres I’d be careful with Black Circles. I’ve enquired with them before and they state that they will supply tyres with up to 2 years since DOT.

Thats interesting. Used them almost exclusively for the last decade and never had any more than a few months old, but worth keeping an eye on for sure.

Certainly 2 years if stored correctly isnt concerning- up to 5 years is the accepted retail standard, believe it or not. 6 years once in use is the limit, or 10 on a low usage vehicle stored correctly.

That maybe your ‘in use’ limit but there is no limit on a Class 4 or 5 vehicles unless it has 9 or more seats in the UK.

If that is correct (and i'm not doubting you) how would the rumoured new 5 year limit on MOTs be implemented?

I've absolutely no idea. One would hope such matters will be considered before introducing new legislation, but this is the government were talking about here!

I have only gad mine on for a month or so now but I love them. They seem to be getting mire comfy again now they've been used a bit too. No complaints here.

My reasoning...

Three peaks rated.

Feedback among the local 4x4 response beard chewers is they behave very well on tarmac.

And they keep a bit of off road ability in hand for driving to the croft on South Uist.

So a fair all round compromise.

But while im tilting that way my mind isnt made up. Some months yet to think about it and listen to feedback.

I've just bought a set of 4 of these, being fitted while I type. They were the lowest profile 255/40/20 101 I could find. I had Yokohama Advan in the same size and they are physically quite a bit bigger.

I would never have bought a budget or even a midrange tyre in the past.
However, when I bought my T6 it was fitted with Nexen N-Fera something or other (SU-1 I think). I thought they were that good that when I changed from a 275 to a 245, I went for N-Fera again. The second set of wheels, I put Giti on in 245/45 R20. Partly due to cost, partly because they came as a 103 tyre and partly because I knew they made race tyres, sponsored a truck racing series and thought they must be doing something right. They're excellent in the wet (particularly stopping) but they are noisy by comparison, but it wouldn't put me off having them again.
