My Bamboo T6 Kombi is now sitting proudly on its Rogue Alloys 17’s with 235/65 General Grabber AT tyres. The suspension is totally standard and to me feels quite crashy (albeit better than when it had 20” wheels).

I’m torn as to whether to go for the lowered look, which I quite like, or stay at stock height & change the suspension to give a better ride. Ride quality is important to me, but so is the right look for the van.

What’s the opinions/consensus folks?! Help!

Sounds like a case for Captain CRS! Well worth a chat with Steve @CRS Performance , the Republic of Cannock isn't too bad a drive from Oxon...

Given the Sportline bumper, splitter and tailgate spoiler, I'd go back to 20's and change the suspension for something that compliments them. This is where @CRS Performance come in.

The current look of sporty 'aero' with ruffty tuffty wheels and tyres is a bit like a roadworkers high viz jacket / camo trousers outfit.
 
If you fitted the balloon tyres for a more comfy ride then be aware it's the suspension that does that job.
OTOH if you fitted the Swampy wheels because you like the look then fair enough, in either case though swapping out the suspension for adjustable coil overs will allow you to tail drag with a Swamper low look or leave it way up in the air still but each time the ride will be better without VWs shonky offering.

My experience of standard tired transporter suspension and H&R springs was so bad that I wished I hadn't bought the van at first (2016 SWB 140 Kombi). Shortly before Christmas I had the Koni Definition Kit fitted at @CRS Performance in Cannock. I have had a lot of modified vehicles in the past and spent a lot of money on them but I can honestly say that this is one of the best suspension upgrades I have ever done in nearly four decades of messing with vehicles. Taught, composed and tightly damped yet still compliant with a firm but comfortable ride and none of the harshness or crashing that I had previously on H&R -50mm springs and standard dampers.

I have since had CRS fit a thicker T32 rear anti roll bar and poly bush it and the front anti roll bar and it proved to another noticeably upgrade. It now handles and drives as close to a car as a van can. We also have an almost new Polestar 2 company car and we both prefer to drive the van because of the ride.

It wasn't a cheap upgrade but it was very much worth it and I wouldn't have another Transporter without this suspension now. I have been in friends standard vans since and they feel terrible.

Yours looks lovely. Treat it to new suspension and it'll drive as well as it looks.

Mine on the left and my friends T5.1 on standard suspension on the right. Both are on 18” Sportline alloys with 255/45 18 tyres.
 
Thought I’d drop an update on this. After advice from here, I visited CRS today. Terrific advice & service. Decided on a KW coilover set up, which gave a drop of around 50mm or so. I’ve attached before & after photos below which makes it look more subtle buy it’s quite noticeable in the flesh.

The difference in the ride quality though is fantastic. The 2 hour drive home felt like I was in a completely different van. Pleased as punch and can only agree with the recommendations on here for the fellas at CRS.

*yes, I’ve also sorted the weeds on the drive since the ‘before’ picture too!! 🤣
