I’ve installed a pair of 100ah eco-worthy leisure batteries and would like to know what size inline fuses to fit to the positive wires connecting the batteries please, as I’ve tried the search button but can’t find the information that I need.

John.

Thank you @DXX so am I right according to 12 volt planet 16mm cable carries 110 amp so I would need 100 amp fuses from the positive connection on both lithium batteries.

John.
I’d be fitting max 90A fuses tbh. Fuses are to protect the outgoing cable. The rating of cables isn’t constant, it depends on how much insulation is around them and the ability of the cable to shed heat. If the cable passes under floors or inside insulated panels or voids, then the cable can overheat even if the theoretical maximum current isn’t exceeded. The rating of cables is calculated as if the cable was suspended in free air at a given ambient temperature, usually 20C. Stick the same cable in a thermally insulated enclosure at an ambient temperature of 40C and it’s going to overheat at its maximum rated current. It always pays to oversize the cable & under size the fuse.

What are you loads?

Work out how much per you can draw as a max.

Ie 1000w inverter 100A, led lights 5A, usb charger 10A etc. (Add up the watts or amps) ... Eg 115A

Then add a safety margin, say 25% eg 143A

Then size you cable for about that, say 150A.

Then fuse down to protect the cable ie 100A.

Assuming that the max load will be very infrequent and the average load will be well under that.

.....

So it depends on loads, then cable, then fuse.

extra info. . . as i have just got one of these as well - for the solar shed.

this battery. . . 100ah

.

and calls for cable size:

estimated 115A draw to use 2AWG or 33.6mm2 cable.

shows that its max discharge rate is 100A . . .

heres a handy SoC chart.
