In my experience (in the corporate arena), this sort of team camaraderie was commonplace prior to the financial crash of 2008, but withered away after that.
 
I was quite shocked when I moved from germany that people come into the office "just to work".
Took me 2 years of leadership and a bit of beer to convince people to stay and have a meal together.
This year was the first year when I went with 6 from the team on an abroad boys trip (unpaid and in our freetime :-) ).
Its given and taken, we have 50 staff and not everybody is in the office/workshop to find new friends but I have quite stable core team that made it through covid and all the other hurdles in the last years.
 
Let´s put it that way. They happily joined us for a day trip hiking in Wales and going on a 4x4 tour - 3 days from pub to pub in cologne with the only target to get drunk wasn´t exactly what they´ve been after.
We try to spoil them. An engineering consultancy (automotive) is not exactly the easiest environment for females.
 
My mate moved to lower Normandy. Barenton.
Been there and the D Day beaches 3 times now. Thinking of moving out there. Different way of life!

We love France but it would drive me mad if I lived here. The bureaucracy is a nightmare, the cost of living is way higher than the UK and the French are a bloody minded lot, practically un governable.
 
Post B word I got fed up with the snarky comments when over there (BiL lives there so we visit once or twice a year), so now I pretend Im German when in France! Being a fluentish German speaker makes the subterfuge believable.

Anyway, breakfast of 2 x slices toast with Marmite, no butter.

Odd that, our French friends were a tad jealous that we had broken away from the EU. They are of the opinion that the only people that benefit from the EU are farmers, and that everyone else is paying for them. There’s little sympathy for farmers out here in France, they are seen as the rich elite, unlike in the UK.
 
Never had a Frenchman expressing their admiration for the B word to me, but have experienced a few barbed comments.

Personally I couldn't give a sheet either way so would be quite happy to be left out of it entirely, but breaking into German and barking instructions has thus far got me away from each such moment without having to get into an argument..
