So in the left D-pillar you should have (besides the parking sensor 12-pin connector) for trailer another 12-pin connector and 8-pin connector? Did you already connect into them?

Yes, I have that but have not yet connected it.
It was a blank connector in that position when I started.

Now I have everything back to original since I want to drive the car tomorrow. Need to find out the correct pinout on the 12p connector before connecting the 8pin

Hope this helps. The wiring from van side comes from the top.
The trailer preparation connectors in the van are here T8af (8-pin) and T12v (12-pin). The trailer socket connector T13.
Pins are marked in each connector. E.g T12v/12(pin) has red/white wire on van side which then connects trailer socket T13/5(pin) as light 58R (right).
