Welcome new members

Yep couldn't believe his luck .
He's converted it to a camper now and will blow it out again come spring time to finance his next 'project' .
He normally buys accident damaged stuff.
So what's the golf running ?

Big fan of luck like that.i did the same with the iveco I had after my first crafter, got it mega cheap, converted, sold to buy a caravan and race car bits.

2.0tfsi engine, direct injection deleted, billet mechanical fuel pump, 1050cc Injectors (for this season) turbosmart 6062, should make about 800ish hp. Engine is at the machine shop currently, should be out on track in April /may. I got rid of my Peugeot boxer for the crafter ad they're a much nicer van and a better tow rating, purposely brought as a non runner, I'm going to put a post in the engine section as I've found some weird faults that I'm almost certain nobody has seen before 🤣

Hello,
Just bought a '17 LWB T6 adapted for wheelchair passenger. So far so good and this forum has been really helpful and look forward to putting something back once I have enough knowledge!
Thanks

Hi T6 people!
Looking forward to getting involved.
All the best,
Tom
Welcome Tom.

You got a van or are you looking for one? If/when you have one, don't forget to share a few pics. 👍

Hello all,

I've been reading various threads on the forum, which is really helpful. I'm in the market for a T6.1 Camper. The search has been underway for 6 months now. I thought attending the NEC Motorhome event this week would help; it was full of T7S, and my heart is set on a T6.1. I'm trying to solve 2 puzzles!

1, SWB V LWB
2, Engine 150 v 204
3. Which camper conversion company to use: King / Monster / All Seasons / Southlands / Knights. They all offer great specs

What I have learnt is that Bed on Rails is a great option, which is leading me towards. the SWB. This year, we are going to explore the UK with our dogs. The hot/Cold Shower attachment looks like a cool feature.

Advice and comments welcome.

Nice to meet you all

Danny

I've bought two accident repaired cars in the past, both with positive results.

Welcome to the forum @Roweman.

When all said and done, the Transporter is a small van, so the extra 40cm of a LWB will make a huge, positive difference to your camping experience - especially so with 2 dogs. It's the difference between having the floorspace to stand/ dress/ undress when the bed's out or not.

Some argue that a LWB is more tricky to park, but I've never had a problem parking mine, though my van is strictly a camper and isn't dailyed. IMO, the only valid reason for not going LWB is if you don't have room at home to park it - all other reasons are spurious... IMO.

Re engine choice, I wanted to avoid the potential drama and expense of a bi-turbo, so chose the 150. It provides more than adequate performance (for a camper) and is arguably the most robust engine in the lineup.

Re choice of conversion design and conversion company, that's purely down to your own personal taste and, of course, your budget. A bed on rails does provide more flexibility, but do at least consider a u-shaped setup, which provides great storage, a sociable space and a bigger bed, as long as you don't need to carry rear passengers.

HTH and happy hunting. Don't forget to post pics when you find the van of dreams! ;)

Thank you, Bav,

This is great information. I'll be sure to post the van when I find the right 1. We have space for LWB, so this is not a deal breaker.

We have 2 vans to view next weekend. Hopefully 1 of them will tick all the boxes

I pretty much agree with everything @Bav wrote. Our main reason for going SWB was parking as he points out. We have the 150bhp and find the performance more than adequate. And at the risk of starting a debate which is not my intention, im just giving my opinion. But I went manual mostly because of budget, but I really like the 6 speed its a sweet gearbox. And paired with adaptive cruise I can sit for miles upon miles without touching the shifter, and only now and again dipping the clutch to swap between 5th and 6th.

Hi All

It's about time I owned up, I'm the lucky fool who bought @JOG's "spare" California last month. Was a bit of an impulse purchase as we'd been looking to buy a van and and kit it out, but the thought of being able to use it this year rather than have a work in progress just sat on the drive was too good to pass up!

Cheers,
Neil

@Roweman, as @Macp alludes to, DSG vs manual is another significant choice you'll need to make.

Having only ever driven manuals, I chose DSG. The very first time I drove the van, from force of habit I went to dip a non-existent clutch pedal and ended up left-foot braking very hard. After peeling my face off the windscreen, I resolved to never ever doing that again. 🤡🤕🤔

Haven't looked back since and now swap between a DSG van and a manual car without a thought and without incident.

Thank you @Bav @Macp

Again, helpful. I'm sold on DSG, now leaning to LWB. Engine, happy either way. I read the 204 engine was not as reliable; however, I guess if you stay on top of services, it should see you right🙏

There are a lot of damn good manual vans but if you got the budget for the DSG then why not. The 204 is more reliable than the old unit. But do you need the complexity of a twin turbo engine with DSG too. Again if you got the budget to run & maintain, what the heck life is short.

Hello.
I've jumped ship from my trusted old T4... And gone for a T6 4motion 😊😬
No doubt will be getting involved. It's an ex British Gas van, but think it was from Scotland with service history from Glasgow. Then was done up for a competition I think 🤔 full camper conversion. It's not bad... But not perfect. So will be adding as I go.
Pic of the first wash after back in northern Ireland.
