Welcome new members

Hello all, newbie here, and alas no Transporter just yet. Always fancied one, and we have 3 kids (10, 8, 8) and have struggled with car sizes for a while now. We’re currently running a 3008 and are currently in France having our first holiday abroad where we’ve driven. For me, this has highlighted the need for a bit more space especially as t’other half is keen to do more Europe trips in the coming years however she is unconvinced by a van. So…if anyone has any recommendations on how to convince her, I’m all ears! I’m not sure yet about a Kombi or a Caravelle…the former would probably be a more useful daily, the latter a more useful long drive vehicle, and also maybe more family days out with grandparents etc. Definitely no need for camping capabilities, with there being 5 of us.

Were not quite in a position to pull a trigger yet anyway as I’m currently selling my coffee van business so have neither cash nor space, but perhaps over the next 6-12 months I’d be very interested.
Rent one @Sladie07 ! That's how we started, my bank account has been downhill ever since! Welcome to many different ways to spend a fortune!

Good shout…that’s definitely an option I’ll look at. I’m hoping to get back into a band (guitars…another money pit!) when my business sells so a van would be useful for that too

Hi Sladie07

I guess you need to know how you might need to use any future vehicle before deciding if one or the other or neither is suitable. The Caravelle tends to be more plush seating windows al round is recognised as a car so no disputes over its use and being fines for speed limits offences that cars can legally travel at. Obviously more expensive than it commercial twin. Their is more space than a normal car seven seats are the usual in Caravelles . The middle row of seats can be spun around from facing forward to a more social direction facing rear the middle and rear seats also can be slid back and forth along rails. Both give excellent viewing of the road ahead and over hedges looking to the side. For largish vehicles they handle quite well. the more powerful versions are capable of travelling along the autobahn at 120mph plus. They are available in front wheel drive and 4Motion which is AWD or a form of four wheel drive. Some people sleep in them the rear most 3 bench seat lays flat and tuns into a bed which is short on its own but by manipulating the middle row or by buying a special extending table can provide a comfortable bed for two. Others on here with the Caravelle might tell you what they have done for camping purposes. I believe that some may have put a pop-top on a Caravelle but it has a more complex roof lining than a Kombi due partially to air-conditioning pipework and insulation and lighting but it is not impossible. The Kombi is more simple in this respect. Another option is a roof tent or to just carry normal camping gear in the spacious boot area and do tent camping. If you prefer to stay at properties B&B Hotels and so on then either would be fine the Caravelle would be more luxurious and quiet if on can call it that. Certainly the Caravelle can cover long distances in comfort. Their is a following section on this forum for owners of Caravelles to post up their vehicles if they wish.

Tell her George Clooney/Brad Pitt/Benedict Cumberbatch (select man totty appropriate to taste) goes dogging jn the woods near your house but only has it away with women that drive a Transporter.

Hey! All great info thanks, and some food for thought. Honestly, I guess until I work out what job I might do next, I suppose I can’t quite answer the question of what it would be used for long term, certainly on a daily basis. I do like the idea of the Caravelle, but wonder if its features would be used so infrequently, a kombi would suffice 90% of the time.

Ha ha! Good idea, I’ll try that later after we’ve had a glass of Frances finest red! Will report back! 😂

Hi everyone,

Just joined after getting my T6. ATM it’s a panel van, but in time will convert it.

Anyway, thanks for accepting me & hopefully you won’t get frustrated with any silly questions that I may have!

Welcome to the forum. Now would be a good time to provide a 'before' pic of your van... just sayin' ;)

Hi all, just joined, having already found this forum useful when searching for answers. I’ve been the happy owner of a T6.1 kombi highline for just over a year now and love it. No huge plans to convert it, but never say never.

Good afternoon all,

Joined this community after reading some very helpful and useful tips, whilst I'm researching the T6 Caravelle LWB.
Hunting around for the Rainbow Unicorn 🦄🦄, but I will find it and be living my best life with it.

Hello 👋 🤗 everyone 👍👍

Hey all, I've been on the hunt for a few months for a T6 Highline Auto and I've missed out on a few already. I should be buying one this Friday which is why I've joined the forum. I can actually start planning things :grin bounce:. I'll be converting to a camper and I don't have the time for DIY unfortuantly. I'll share pics when I get the van and then some posts on the conversion.

I'm looking for paint job inspiration if anyone has links. I like the two tone but everyones pics are buried in mutlple posts so it's a drag looking through them at the moment.

Hi Guys, new to this place just thought I’d drop and say Hi.

Jamie
Welcome to the forum Jamie.

What brings you to these parts? Are you a long-time owner, a newbie, a soon-to-be newbie or are you still at the research stage?

I’ve had one for a couple of years now, I’ve googled a few things and this place comes up quite a bit, so thought I’d hop on board.

:) Sounds familiar - that's what led me here.

We're an active and engaged group with lots of knowledge and experience to tap into, with some friendly banter thrown in for good measure.

Now all you need to do is post some pics of your van - it's the unwritten rule! ;)
