Was driving fine, now engine light and smoke

My T6 Was driving fine, now there is an engine warning light, a bit of a judder and smoke from behind the engine on start up.

There's no real smell of burning and no dashboard messages other than a warning light.

There seems to be damaged cables to the rear of the engine where the smoke is coming from.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Phil

were exactly?

can you get a video clip of it?

Can't compress my vid for some reason. I'll keep trying. The smoke is coming from the area in the bottom pic.

you need to link your vid from your online gallery,

or,

drop on YT and post a link to that here.

Also get it plugged into diagnostics to find out what fault code/s are present.

Update on this engine issue ... sad news (for me!) the engine is effectively a gonner.

The EGR pipe was replaced. The garage suggested various unrelated repairs {ABS sensors etc} at a cost of 5K+

Days after the repair of the EGR there is an oil leak, I take it back to the VW garage and they tell me the engine needs replacing for the bargain price of- £14,000! seems it lacks compression, 3 cylinders are below limits and we don't know why.

Any thoughts? how does this happen to a well serviced 7 yr engine??

Sorry to be highlighting the reality, but if it genuinely needs £5K of repairs PLUS a new engine at £14K, you've got to question the sense in having any further work done.

Indeed, unless some genius out there has a solution, this van will get oil added and driven short journeys until it craps out completely. A bit soul destroying really as we've spent a bit on the interior etc.

Still suggesting to have a look at above mentioned thread. After documenting continuously higher oil use as recognized in the TPI, regarding the CXEB engines, several of us
managed to get VW to chip in on the new engine needed. Personally I got 80% off parts and 50% off labor.
Of course no idea of your full details but give it a read.

Best of luck to you.

You must be gutted. Might be worth getting a second opinion from an independent VW garage and a more competitive quote rather than from a dealership if that helps

ABS sensors will give a dashboard warning if defective, they may fail one at a time but almost never more than one at a time.
Even the best Bosch units are just £30 each and approx’ 30 min’s to replace.
Take your van elsewhere, you are being shafted!
